Please notice that most of the positive reviews are from a while ago. There has to be new owners. Our food was packed in styrofoam boxes and all egg rolls and sides were in ziploc baggies. I was leaving UTC after a day of shopping and picked up a Family Meal last night. If I lived closer we would have poured the food back in the styrofoam boxes and gotten our money back. Nothing about it was edible. We all ended up throwing it away and eating leftovers for dinner. My 8 year old son and I tried to eat ours but he brought his back out and asked for something else. My husband ate half of his plate and was in the bathroom all night. I own a business and hate leaving poor reviews but I feel like if I could shout it from the rooftops I would tell everyone how far this place has gone down. The interior of the storefront was filthy. Chicken was full of sinew and tasted off. Shrimp tasted off. They actually offered fried rice and rice noodles as a side choice with the family deal which came completely plain. The fried rice was mush with soy sauce on it- not even frozen peas and carrots were added. All meats were awful. Sauces were watered down. Crispy noodles were stale. The food was flavorless but bad at the same time. It tasted like the fry oil hasn’t been changed in years. Egg rolls and spring rolls had filling that was the consistency of oatmeal and dripping with grease. This has to be under new ownership because I used to get takeout from here 5 years ago and it was still as good as China Palace Express which was it’s predecessor and was the best Chinese takeout I ever had. I wish I had gotten Chinese from UTC. I would have saved $40 and gotten some decent food. I threw $90 down the toilet, literally. The picture I posted is of what they call fried rice before we threw it away. The rice noodles are the other side option for the family meal. No sauce or seasonings or anything.

I’m not picky about Chinese food, but this is the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. I don’t know how this place has so many good reviews – there was no flavor to my general tso chicken, the chicken itself was disgusting and the rice was bland. If you order lo mein – it’s dry noodles (I didn’t realize you have to pay almost an extra $5 for sauce). Seriously do not recommend.

Hands down, the BEST Chinese Take-Out in town! Consistently delicious, always lots of leftovers and reusable packaging. I order for pickup because they are so fast, but they also have a delivery option. The staff is wonderful and very attentive to when you arrive. You need to order online as this is not a walk in establishment. But as soon as you pull up, they run out to your car with your order. I believe I’ve seen some people order outside at the door, but I’m not sure about that process. So just order ahead for pickup.
The Orange Chicken is the absolute best! Along with Sweet and Sour Chicken, Lo Mein and Fried Rice. I also have to have the Krab Rangoons because they are so good!!

For mains, I had the Tofu in Bourbon Sauce, while my friend enjoyed the Three Meat Fried Rice—both were excellent. The flavors were spot on, and the food arrived exactly as we ordered it.
Portion sizes were generous, easily enough for two meals per person, making it an outstanding value for the price. Everything was well-prepared, fresh, and delicious, with no mistakes or missing items—a rarity for takeout!

I’ve never written a review before but the food here was so bad that I had to. To warn other people.
Ordered combo with lo mein, fried rice and orange chicken. Lo mein was bone dry. Fried rice was just brown rice. And orange chicken had neither the orange flavor nor tasted good anyway.
This was by far the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had and in fact, the worst food I’ve had in a long time. Avoid at all costs. This place will make you hate Chinese food if this was all you knew Chinese food to be.

I am not one to leave negative reviews, but because I have ordered from here many times over the years, and it was my favorite Chinese food in Sarasota, I need to share:

The food had no flavor. There was some heat to the Kung Pao Chicken that I ordered, beyond that, no flavor. For $15, I got mostly sauce and large pieces of broccoli, with very little chicken etc.. Even the lomein I use to love had no flavor!

My new favorite place for Chinese takeout!! This is the first time I have ever eaten from here before, and they definitely knocked it out of the park. I ordered the Sweet Chili Chicken-with fried rice, Krab Rangoons, Vegetable Lo Mein Noodles-with white rice and an Egg Roll. If you are worried about a “small” not being enough food for dinner..don’t be, combined with the rice-the portions are more than enough. Thee best Krab Rangoons I have ever eaten, hands down!! I have tried all of the Chinese cuisine in Sarasota, only to be disappointed with the subpar taste and quality. I was continuously getting dark meat chicken in my entree, and most of the time it had a center that was like chewing through leather. Not here, I only had chunks of white meat-and they tasted very succulent. This establishment is a bit tucked away, so unfortunately it has gone unnoticed-but now that I have discovered this little piece of heaven, I will definitely be back for more!! Also..We forgot to grab our fried rice, during pickup-so they had a driver deliver it to us. That was so sweet, and very unexpected. Thank you so much, we will be back 🙂

Food is absolutely fabulous! The fried rice is actual fried rice. Not that light red/ orange crap with diced carrots and peas. This the only place I’ll spend my money for good take out! Service is great too!! It’s a win, win for me

I decided to give Rice Box Express a try as it is one of the better rated Chinese places around although it recently has received some negative reviews. Unfortunately, I found that the reviews were more than true. The food was almost inedible. My Bourbon Chicken was SO salty that I was only able to have a couple of bites before tossing it away. The rice and lo mein was extremely dry and seemed a bit stale. The only things that were good were the egg rolls and the dumplings which I’m sure come frozen and they just steam and fry.
