Social Profile:

Rex Italian Foods has been a cornerstone of exceptional Italian cuisine in the Chicagoland area for generations. While there may not be a literal “Rex,” the name embodies the regal quality and rich tradition of our offerings. Originating in the late 1960s by the Cinquino brothers on Chicago’s west side, Rex quickly became synonymous with premium Italian deli fare. After relocating to the north side, we’ve upheld 4431 N Harlem Ave since 1993. At Rex, authenticity is our hallmark. We meticulously craft our own Italian beef and hand-stuffed sausages, ensuring each bite is a taste of tradition. Our selection boasts premium Italian lunch meats, specialties, and a distinctive line of homemade pastas.

Counter-serve Italian entrees & sandwiches served at a small sit-down section inside a food market.

Everything comes full circle. This italian deli was only 10 minutes from when I lived in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, but with the densely packed area, very easy to overlook this place.

Its a simple façade but some excellent italian treats. Their cannolis and tiramisu are very good but their star is their panzerotti.

This is much like a calzone but uses a flaky, crunchy puff pastry envelope. Inside was lots of pepperoni, mozzarella and sauce. Incredible flavor and way better airy-ness to the crust. Seems a bit lighter in calories but who am I kidding!!!

I will need to try their spicy panzerotti next, which I believe is filled with spicy soppressatta.

Love Rex’s deli Chicago staple!! We stopped in for lunch and just loved it. Super authentic and delicious food. Fun environment and very friendly folks running the place. Would absolutely come back! Everything was fresh from the bread to the meats. I got the Italian sandwich amazing flavors the bread had the right bit and chew I love that! Amazing olive oil it really came thur on the sandwich. Coast less then a subway sandwich no brainer right!! Oh and plus They love handing out samples of different foods they always want you to try something like a true Italian family love it. 100% recommend!

Ordered a few calzones (pepperoni and sausage) and they were ok. The bread-to-filling ratio was more bread-heavy than actual sauce, cheese, and meat. The flavor was good, despite the lack of filling inside. They were honestly a bit of a slight disappointment, as I was expecting better after seeing all of the positive reviews and publicity. Gonna have to give their other menu items a try and hope for a more fulfilling experience. The service was good and the interior was clean and tidy and sported some neat, quaint Old World Italian decorations. There are plenty of tables and seating to go around, both inside and outside Rex. Overall – good service, cool ambiance, but the calzones were a swing and a miss. Cheers.

This place is a must. The lasagna superb. The stuffed peppers are fantastic. Authentic Italian deli when you walk in you are greeted with friendly staff and samples that say welcome. Don’t miss the cookies near the register. They’re so good.

So I’m from the Bronx and have been living out here almost 2 years. I have been looking for veal that actually taste good and a great sandwich that reminds me of NY. Last night my partner and I had the breaded steak sandwich and the veal parm and it was amazing! We will probably order from you guys tonight as well! So happy I found this place.

This is a traditional, old school Italian deli with variety of Foods. I ordered a meat lasagna and it was delicious. All foods are home made and the staff are really friendly. I suggest them to heat up the food well before serving, since my lasagna was not hot as it was supposed to be. The dining area is not too large but it’s in a good size though. Overall I recommend it to everyone.

As soon as I stepped inside this little corner deli I realized that this was a real deal Italian joint. Paninis, subs, pastas, fresh baked cookies, spumoni. Spumoni! I haven’t had this in forever.

Everyone is friendly and the prices are great for the quality of food. And the quality is five stars all the way.

I went with the Guy Fieri sausage sub. Real Italian sausage, marinated peppers, Italian roll. Really good.

Second visit: I came back with my fiance so she could sample the great food too. My Italian Sub was really good. Her stuffed pepper was divine, maybe the best I’ve ever tasted. It came with generous portions of a delicious focaccia bread. She ended up getting two meals out of it all.

We both give it five stars.
