The food, wine and cocktails here are excellent. I like that they change their menu seasonally. It can get busy, but reservations are easy to make. It is small so I wouldn’t recommend a group larger than four unless you go at an off time. A great neighborhood treasure!

From Miami Beach, visiting family Revel was suggested by my daughter. She knows we like wine. We didn’t have a reservation and were offered a table, but we opted to sit at the bar. We like to get to know the bar staff. We found the bar to be very well stocked and the bartender offered to make anything we wanted. The beverage director helped with picking wines to pair with our food orders, including splashes of different wines to try before deciding. We will definitely be back!

The appetizers, the cocktails, the wine list, the desserts — all A+!!! The pimento cheese and house-made tortilla chips were perfect to go with wine and cocktails with a friend. The pimento cheese was just a little spicy and oh so tasty. I had two lush French wines. And we shared the panacota dessert with basil seeds. Refreshing and light. Stop in for anything. I think you cant go wrong!!

Great hidden gem near Belle Haven!
Was packed on a Friday evening but the Resy reservation got us a table at prime time.
Food was interesting and delicious! Wine selection was fantastic, including a great port wine dessert flight.
100% going to be a repeat diner!

I’ll preface this by saying we went in at 4pm on a Friday for wine and charcuterie. The charcuterie choices were great as was the wine. The atmosphere though is another story. The benches for the tables are very soft and you sink right in, which puts the table at an awkward height for eating or drinking. There are a couple of tables that are so close to the bar that each time a person walks by, they bump into your chair as well. While all of this is tolerable, the biggest hang-up I had was that I was surrounded by 5-year-old and younger ballerinas on iPads. It would seem that this is where the parents come after ballet class a couple of doors down. Normally, not a problem, but when they are sitting at the bar, or at the tables near you and all you can hear is “Bluey” on multiple ipads, it kind of takes away from the atmosphere.

I needed somewhere new to go & this was what Google recommended:)! This was a super nice, wine/ beer bar & restaurant. The decor was gorgeous and well thought out. It is a great place to meet up with friends or neighbors. This is a great find!! It opened in January, I am hoping that people will give this place a try. We will definitely go again soon! They also have a tent out back that is pet friendly.

We really loved our experience at Revel! I am a small business owner nearby so it’s awesome to support our local restaurants. Great cocktail program! Very inventive flavors. I will definitely be back. Thank you

Last night I finally made it to this new wine bar and restaurant after wanting to go for weeks!

First, the space is spectacular. No detail was left untouched, and the whole place feels fresh and modern but welcoming and warm. The service was excellent, clearly the wine selection was stellar, and the food was so delicious!

We started with the gougères and the trout rilletes with endive, moved on to fingerling potatoes, wild mushrooms and lentils, and gumbo for my husband. (His comment was: I can’t imagine anything improving this dish. High praise!) Then we ordered a couple of cheeses and finished on an especially high note with the pot de crème—which I’m already craving again fewer than 18 hours later.

I took what was left of my lentils and potatoes, and added a couple of fried eggs for breakfast this morning—highly recommend!

If you live in the DC area, trust me. You want to make Revel your next restaurant/wine bar adventure. They don’t take reservations, so get there earlier than you might otherwise and you will love the entire experience!

Revel is a true gem of Alexandria. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere that makes it perfect for date night or group dining. The staff is amazing. There isn’t a bad choice on the menu- everything is delicious and the drinks and wine are always excellent.
I recently worked with Revel staff to throw a small private party in Unwined which exceeded all my expectations and received rave reviews from all of our guests. The evening was truly amazing!

If you read the other reviews you’ll see a lot of “hidden gem”, “charming” blah blah. The thing is… its true.

Revel is exemplary.

This review is based on ~50 visits over 4 years.

Revel has a very unassuming exterior. Its easy to pass by, but as soon as you walk in, you can tell someone put a lot of thought and care into making it something special.

For me, the star of the show is the cocktail program. You’d be hard pressed to find better drinks in the city. Consistent high quality. The bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable and creative which means if you’d like a custom twist on a classic they can dial it in no problem. For nerds like me, I enjoy learning about the clever fresh ingredients they use.

The restaurant is attached to a very nice wine shop (Unwined), so no surprise it has a wine-bar feel. I certainly drink wine, but I’m no enthusiast so I very much appreciate that the servers are always happy to explain the options and make a recommendation.

There is also a decent selection of quality craft beers on tap. Usually some combination of (pils, lager, IPA, hazy , sour, cider) and a handful of bottles. Usually something dark is on tap or in bottles.

The chefs do a great job at preparing creative seasonal menus. And I’d add, creative without losing the plot. Its hard to say there is any one particular style. Last time I had a Pakistani chicken curry which was killer. There is usually some type of novel salad, soup/gazpacho, a dozen different appetizers and maybe half dozen entrees, a very nice cheese and charcuterie menu. The lamb tartar, meat pies and gumbo are among my favorite of the items that are usually on the menu. The desserts tend to be lighter versions of their namesakes. For example if you order a rum cake, its not going to be super dense and sweet. Its probably going to be made with some special kind of flour and and use honey instead of processed sugar – I’m making up the details, but it seems to be a conscious choice to provide lighter “healthier?” options.

Consistent great service. Its helpful to have friendly wait staff to explain some of the items I’m not familiar with.

When you visit…and you should!…I think you’ll see that you are being served by a group of incredibly talented folks who genuinely care about their craft and what ends up on your table. It will be served with an infectious , genuine courtesy. And that , above all else, is what keeps me coming back.
