Reviews
From the moment we stepped in, the staff made us feel right at home. The service was exceptional special mentions to the waitress, who was incredibly kind, radiant, and welcoming. We were immediately greeted with the classic local touch: a small plate of olives and fresh bread.
The Food
The highlights of our lunch were undoubtedly the sardines and the fried calamari. Both were delicious, but the sardines stole the show. It was truly evocative to watch the chef braving the rain to cook them over the open fire in the traditional “boat” (capanna) right in front of the restaurant.
Atmosphere
There is something uniquely beautiful about enjoying a fresh seafood lunch while watching the stormy sea just a few steps away. The contrast between the cozy, warm hospitality inside and the wild weather outside made for an unforgettable meal.
I mostly enjoyed the fried fish platter which provided a great variety of different tastes and the location was great – with beautiful views of the sea. My partner enjoyed the grilled fish which is cooked fresh outside.
My wife and I took a sea-facing table outside. Shortly after, a waitress (initials A, as shown on the receipt) brought us a menu and placed a bowl with two pieces of bread, some olives, and a small packet of crisps on the table. We never asked for these items, so we naturally assumed they were complimentary. Unfortunately, they were later added to the bill for €3.60 without any prior explanation, which was disappointing.
Initially, the waitress was pleasant and explained the menu. However, after seeing the very high prices, we decided to keep it simple and ordered just one plate of espeto (€7) along with drinks. From that moment on, the attitude changed noticeably. The service became cold and indifferent. The espeto was placed on the corner of the table without a word, and no one checked on us afterward.
While seated, I couldn’t help but notice that tables ordering multiple courses received warm, attentive service, whereas we were largely ignored — simply because we chose not to order more. Our decision wasn’t about affordability, but about value and preference.
When we asked for the bill, we were told “un momento,” but then had to wait another 10–15 minutes. After paying by card, I requested a proper receipt. Instead, the waitress rudely tore off a tiny piece of paper with no clear details of the amount paid and walked away. When I thanked her, there was no response.
This kind of attitude was surprising and disappointing, especially considering that during our three days in Málaga, we shared meals at many restaurants and were never treated this way.
Ironically, the elderly gentleman outside — whom I believe to be the owner — was the most pleasant person throughout. He came across as humble, warm, and completely non-judgmental, which made the contrast in service even more unfortunate.
Overall, while the espeto itself was decent and the setting beautiful, the service left a very sour impression.
