A lovely spot all around. The service is friendly, food is delicious and the space is beautiful. Every plate is intentionally made with local & ethically sourced ingredients and the owners are great humans. Each and every plate feels like a warm hug.

In addition to providing exceptional restaurant service, Restaurant Salaam has also catered special events. Hilarie and her team catered my daughter’s wedding in 2019, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. To fully appreciate how incredible the food was, a little context is helpful: we had our East Coast Italian family visiting. Italian weddings in New York and New Jersey are typically lavish, black-tie, multi-course, sit-down affairs featuring lobster, prime rib, and elaborate dessert displays stretching across eight-foot Venetian tables.

Even with “gourmet luxury” as their standard for wedding celebrations, our East Coast Italian family was profoundly impressed with the cuisine Restaurant Salaam served. They enthusiastically declared it the best food they had ever enjoyed at a wedding and were genuinely stunned by both the beauty and the presentation of each dish.

I regret that I do not have photos to share and that it has taken me nearly seven years to write this review.

Thank you to Hilarie and the entire Restaurant Salaam staff for your extraordinary artistry, culinary excellence, and professionalism. You helped make my daughter’s wedding a truly classy and memorable celebration where our guests were treated to a delicious, beautiful, and altogether remarkable meal.

The absolute best, and I try to visit every time I can return to Athens. The ambience is cozy, warm, and welcoming with lots of colorful textiles that just feels comforting. The food is always a delicious, high quality, flavorful delight and I especially love getting free bread to start (who doesnt??). The wine selection is great and the coconut curry chicken is to die for. Service is always excellent and I want to give extra kudos for the restaurant providing sippy cups (not just plastic cups with lids, like reusable washable ones as just part of their dishware) and for having toddler toilet seats for those with potty training kids like me. A versatile spot for a casual outing but also can feel like a fancy date night spot too.

We travel several hrs to eat here. You can generally cut the steaks or lamb chops with a butter knife, and are some of the most flavorful I’ve had. The changing weekly specials are great to try something new.
You guys got me to eat liver which even my grandma couldn’t get me to do.
Good selection of wine and beers as well as non alcoholic offerings too.
I’ll see you during Ohio Brew Week if not before.

We cannot say enough great things about Restaurant Salaam. They’re right next door to my boutique, which is fabulous for me when I get off work. The food is always great, and I do have my favorites like their Salmon Taratour, but I always look forward to their specials. I wait for the Taverna Eggplant appetizer to turn up…it is the best I have ever had. My husband, on the other hand, orders the lamb chops every time he dines there, and we dine there often. He said, they are the best lamb chops around! The staff is wonderful, and the place’s vibe is the coolest. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Athens. We have been traveling a lot, but our first stop back will be Salaam.

One of our favorite Athens restaurants. The dining room is cozy. The food is fresh and they have outstanding specials. We love that the menu includes dinners along with wraps and salads, so, regardless of hunger level or price point, you can find something that suits you. I can’t end my review without a shoutout to their staff, who are friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Sparkle Toy Heaven

Restaurant Salaam is not only my favorite Athens restaurant, it is possibly one of my favorite restaurants I have ever visited. The food is consistently excellent (the ribeye and the salmon are two of my favorites), the atmosphere is cozy and inviting (the decor has so many cool things to look at while you’re dining), and the service is always awesome. Keri and the rest of the staff work hard to ensure that you have the best dining experience possible. Highly recommend this restaurant!

We don’t get to eat at Salaam often (we live an hour away) but we are always delighted when we can. The food has always been delicious, generous, and definitely is not like corporate restaurants’. There are plenty of vegetarian options, which is important to me. The dining room is beautiful, warm and not noisy even when full. The staff is very courteous and happy to help, without exception. Salaam is well loved by the Athens community and beyond.

Excellent restaurant. We drive 50 min just to come here. Fun/cozy decor, great service, incredible food. Delicious baba ganoush and hummus, creative specials, and the lamb chops are some of the best we’ve ever had. Been here dozens of times and never had anything less than stellar food and service.
