Came for restaurant week and for $60 you choose from a prefix menu of an appetizer, entree, and dessert which is a great deal. We got to try a bunch of stuff on their menu (soba noodles, eggplant, sukiyaki, sushi, ice cream, and jello), all of which were amazing. We added the miso cod and it was so perfect and buttery. The staff was very attentive and nice. They made sure our tea and water glasses were filled at all times. It wasn’t super crowded when we got in at 6:30pm on a week night and then placed filled up very quickly after that so would recommend reservations.

I had an incredible dinner with my mom to celebrate her birthday. This is my 6th time to Restaurant Nippon and my mom’s first. She absolutely loved it, and we appreciated the birthday wishes and dessert.

We got the Grilled Black Cod with Saikyo Miso, the Eggplant with Nanban Miso, the Shrimp Tempura, and the Tantan Tsukumen.

The cod melted in your mouth and was perfectly cooked. Great pairing with the miso. Same with the eggplant!

The shrimp tempura was perfectly fried and came with vegetable tempura. The dipping sauce added a savory and salty balance to the crunchy texture.

The tantan tsukumen is my personal go-to dish. The dipping sauce is essentially a hearty soup that makes you feel super cozy. It’s a hearty pairing with the cold soba noodles. Always 5 stars.

I’d also add that every time I come to Restaurant Nippon the service is always incredible. Kind staff that come by often and explain how to properly eat the food is great. It adds to the friendly, warm, and sophisticated atmosphere of the interior.

Love the appetizers kind of like a kaiseki and the unaju is perfect. My fiancés sushi was good from the piece I tried but he didn’t love it

Delightful spot to eat solo, or with company. On this 90 degree day I ordered the summer classic cold soba with a side of nostalgia. I’ll be back again to try the sushi some time soon!

When coming here I came from the knowledge that Beef Negimaki was invented in this restaurant. It was a blissful starter for my meal. After I had the Godzilla Curry as my entree and it was perfect. Just the right temperature for rice and curry with a hint of spice that just relaxed me with my green tea by my side and a water. I will come back for more with my family to try more dishes

I wouldn’t say this restaurant is authentic. It is beyond that. When you enter here you temporarily leave all the chaos and noise of Manhattan and get transported to Japan. They serve dishes that are uncommon here in the US, and even fugu dishes during the winter, how crazy is that!
The food is delicious and the service excellent, like in Japan 🙂

It’s hard to find fault with anything at this place. It’s been years… decades… since I’ve been here, and not a thing has changed. If I understand it, it was the first, or maybe just the longest currently existing Japanese restaurant in NYC. No surprises, just great service, tranquil atmosphere, and really superb, classic Japanese food.

I really enjoyed dinner on Saturday! Their outdoor dining was very clean and comfortable. It was sanitized well, and the staffs also carefully took precautions against COVID-19.

I was so happy that I could have such beautiful and tasty Japanese dishes after this long quarantine.
Thank you. I’ll definitely come back.

Real authentic Japanese food was extremely good and amazing service. Would definitely stop by here and come again. I came here during lunch time and it was a nice peaceful place to eat. I also needed help understanding a few things on the menu and the waiter did an amazing job explaining!
