There is no doubt about it,if you are looking for somewhere extra special to celebrate, with over 25 years holding his Michelin Star, then,Restaurant Martin Wishart down at the shore in Leith should be at the top of your list.
Classical French Cuisine ,our lunch today was nothing short of outstanding. Featuring delicious seasonal produce with matching wines we could not have asked for more.
The staff were so knowledgeable and its always a pleasure listening to the sommelier describing the wine you are about to have,I can highly recommend that you treat yourself to a visit in the very near future.

Had an excellent vegetarian lunch experience. Very tasty food and top notch service. A first rate restaurant that Scotland should be proud off.

One of the best Michelin-star restaurants we’ve tried — and easily the top one out of the three we visited during our 4-night stay in Edinburgh.
The food was thoughtfully “crafted” and absolutely delicious. The portions were some of the most generous we’ve ever encountered, leaving us genuinely satisfied by the end of the meal. It’s a rare moment these days when you realise your main course is more than just three bites.

The service was impeccable. Interacting with the international staff was a pleasure, to say the least. The time they took to showcase and explain each ingredient was exactly right — never rushed, always engaging.

Overall, one of our best culinary experiences, and definitely the number-one spot in Edinburgh for us.

A gorgeous meal at Martin Wishart. Every dish felt thoughtful, the pacing perfect, and the service quietly attentive. Elegant, intimate, and absolutely worth it.

Top notch service! We got their 25th anniversary menu. The first few courses (tartare, ceviche, scallops, foie gras) were simply incredible, no notes. The flavors of the next few dishes, the grouse and monkfish (admittedly not my favorite type of fish), seemed muddled. The desserts were satisfactory but nothing that blew us out of the water.

This has to be one of the best fine dining, tasting experiences we have had, and we are seasoned fine diners. From start to finish, everything was perfect. The head waiter and staff were amazing, they couldn’t do enough for you.
We had the anniversary tasting menu, and it was superb, not one dish could we find fault with. My daughter even said it was the best meal she ever had.
Highly recommend to anyone.

I have to admit, the overall experience had a bit of a rough start. After trying to cancel our reservation given that we were likely going to be late, we learned about the cancellation policy requiring 48h notice otherwise a £90(!!) per person cancellation charge would apply. We decided to make it and this was overall the right choice!
– The food : overall, food is delicious. The amuses bouches are fun and delicious. The autumn menu we all selected was copious but manageable. Highlight for me was the scallop, cooked to perfection. Why not 5* ? The salt level… All the food was nicely seasoned but the overall level of salt was too high for our collective taste (6 adults).
– the service : was great overall with excellent attention to details. We felt a little rushed at start which is understandable as we arrived at 8pm. 4* mostly due to the unbelievable cancellation policy.
– atmosphere: beautiful plating, nice decor and the right quiet & upscale. Missing one star comes from the overall quietness on a Thursday night as apart our table, only 2 other tables were actually occupied.

Fine dining but not much else.

As the first in the restaurant, it was nice having the place to myself in the corner for the first several minutes enjoying the quiet. Quickly the entire room filled up with reservations and the normal chatter of a restaurant filled the air.

Ordering the tasting menu I expected to be given a rundown of ingredients and locations with each dish but sadly was not. A simple repeat of the ingredients in each dish as it was set down and that was it. The dishes were delicious, make no mistake. I left satisfied but not full, the tasting menu included dessert and a cheese plate was added in as well. Two glasses of wine to pair with the dishes.

The staff were quick about and courteous, clearing plates, placing new cutlery, filling water glasses and cleaning wine glasses. Again, I did expect more description and sourcing of the dishes.

Seated at noon I left by 2:30, a solid lunch.
Overall it was a nice experience but left me wanting more. Sadly didn’t have the same impact as a similar restaurant down the street did upon first visit.

From the moment we stepped through the door, we well looked after. The team were attentive, intuitive and not overbearing. We enjoyed the celebration tasting menu, which was varied, beautifully presented and most importantly truly delicious. An afternoon that we’ll never forget for all the right reasons. Thank you.
