May 2025 – I have now been reviewing restaurants all over the world. Most are in Montreal because that’s where my home base is located. The city has a large variety and number of multicultural places to eat. Japanese food has been a staple on the Montreal food scene for many years.
With today’s economic instability, one would think that a restauranteur would pull out all the stops to make their customers happy so their restaurant could survive. I may be wrong.
When we arrived, it was pretty empty but quickly filled to capacity. We were given the menus immediately, and water was served. There were only 2 servers, but 3 or 4 making sushi. Good, right? Wrong.
First, our server only appeared at our table to take our order, which was already made on the famous sushi list, 30 minutes later. It’s not a good start.
It seemed as if everyone around us received their food before us. Did we order complicated sushi? I don’t think so. Check the pics.
When the sushi arrived, almost an hour later, it WAS good. We ordered about 40 pieces, so we can try different rolls since it was our first time here. The ingredients were fresh and distinct in taste. The presentation was nice, but some of the rolls did fall apart when we tried to pick them up.
Would I go back. Maybe not.
Service was unacceptable. Parking is very difficult.
Reservations are a must.

We ordered Kamikaze, plate of sushi and sashimi mix and an Ashley roll. I started with miso soup because that is a must for me. The soup was great, they had enough toppings inside. We received Ashley first, the presentation was great. So was the taste. I loved the texture and the flavour, but it was slightly too saucy to my taste. Then, we had the kamikaze roll. Very clean taste, wish it had a bit more of tempura flakes. The sushi and sashimi mix was superb. The salmon was very fresh, melting in my mouth. Other fish were just as tasty and fresh. The makis were great, the titanic roll had some nutty taste to it which I liked. The service was amazing, the waiters/waitresses were very nice and accommodating. They answered our questions and concerns. It was a very pleasant experience.

Got a takeout order and was honestly so disappointed. Every roll seemed like a variation of a California roll, the flavor profiles were off… Sashimi was partially cooked (didn’t mention it on the menu)…The price for quality ratio was pretty poor but I would have been disappointed at a lower price point as well. The service and delivery was very nice.

Ive been coming here my whole life and have always enjoyed the sushi at Kiku (formerly mikado) good quality ingredients, I prefer the simpler products however the NDG roll is a win every time.

Formerly known as Mikado but under the same management and new name :”Kiku” this (still) family owned restaurant provides unchanged, stunningly presented meals made with great care and attention to detail. Generous portions of fresh ingredients, very savoury, creative sauces and a homemade ice cream that rivals most parlours make this beautiful flower an essential destination for sushi lovers.

Amazing sushi. When they were allowed to have indoor dining it was incredibly well done with plexiglass dividers between each table. The quality of food here is awesome I recommend you ask about the hidden menu items such as the NDG roll and the Ashley roll!
Don’t miss the desert of ice cream on a paint palette with chocolate sauce.
The management is incredibly kind and friendly and everyone we’ve ever interacted with there is knowledgeable and courteous. Always great for a date night.

I had a fantastic experience at Kiku Sushi! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with a modern yet traditional aesthetic that made it perfect for a casual night out or a special occasion. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making great recommendations based on our preferences.
The sushi itself was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. Every piece had a clean, delicate flavor that highlighted the quality of the ingredients. I especially enjoyed the rolls Kiku roll, california ,tempura roll,NDG roll & and their sushi sashimi was fresh, the kitchen dishes were just very good,it was perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. The variety on the menu also impressed me, with both classic options and creative specialty rolls.
Kiku is definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to. If you’re a sushi lover or just looking to try something new, I highly recommend giving this place a try!

We went more than 10 times to this restaurant over the last years. It is actually a very good place to eat sushis. The wine list could be a lot better for a restaurant of this class.
