We really enjoyed the quality of the food but the balance was a bit off. We ordered the polenta and the salmon linguine. Both dishes had too little of the secondary ingredients. The polenta could have had more mushrooms and a lot more spinach and sauce, the linguine could have used more of everything except noodles. That’s not to say the portion sizes were too small, but rather that there was too much of the “carb” ingredient relative to the other ingredients.
The ambiance of the place was pretty good, more modern chic than resolutely Italian in style.
The service was also very good handling such a large group.

Drinks were really good, and the pizza was amazing — so delicious! The arancini were also excellent.
The service was very good. We were a big group, and our server handled everything really well.

I visited Restaurant Corneli for my birthday and overall had a good experience, though I left feeling a bit disappointed. The food itself was excellent. The lasagna was rich and flavorful, the gnocchi had a great texture with a fresh tomato sauce, and the pizza was perfectly cheesy with a crispy crust. Everything tasted really authentic and made with care.
The restaurant has a warm, classic Italian atmosphere, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. However, as someone who works in the service industry, I was a little surprised that nothing was mentioned or done for my birthday — no small dessert, acknowledgment, or gesture. It’s something I always make sure to include for guests at my own job, as it adds that personal touch and makes their special day memorable.
Still, Restaurant Corneli delivers great food and a cozy dining experience. It’s just missing that extra bit of hospitality that would’ve made it perfect.

My wife and I have traveled to Montreal for our first trip to the city and it has been amazing. The food and drink has been on par with our trips through Europe (Netherlands, Belgium, France) and Corneli has been at the apex of the trip so far.
We were walking through Mount Royal and decided to catch a quick Uber to Jean Telon Market. Getting peckish, we decided to take a random walk through Little Italy and stumbled upon the restaurant for lunch.
We were immediately seated, drinks served quickly and asked for orders (the accommodation for English was quite welcome). We started with the Bruschetta and loved the fresh tomato, delicious olive oil, and sweet balsamic.
My wife ordered the Penne alla Romanoff (pictured) and I had the recommended Lasagna (pictured).
My exact words to my wife “I think this might be the best lasagne I’ve had…. In my life”. I should be careful as she makes a phenomenal bechamel with her lasagna 🙂
Her Penne was al dente, the sauce was buttery and not overpowering, and paired quite well with the parmasean.
Our drinks of a Spritz, Martini, and Manhatten were satisfying and done expertly. Much better than the price would suggest 🙂
Shout out to our server Andrew who was very attentive, easily provided recommendations, and looked after us with care.

Corneli Montréal: The “Main Character” Bolognese and the Vanishing Waiter
If Montreal suddenly turned into a ghost town and Corneli was the only place with the lights still on, I’d walk right in. It’s a solid 3/5 star experience that keeps you on your toes—mostly because you have to keep standing up to find your waiter.
Here’s how the evening went down:
The “Stealth” Meatballs
We started with the homemade meatballs. Physically? Great quality. Emotionally? A bit distant. They were perfectly cooked but seemingly allergic to seasoning. It’s like they were designed for people who find black pepper a bit “too spicy.”
The Great Bread Heist
This is where the night turned into an escape room. I asked our waiter for bread when the meatballs arrived. He nodded, looked me in the eye, and then apparently entered a witness protection program because I never saw him again.
I had to recruit a second staff member for “Project Bread.” When it finally arrived, it was that classic Italian-restaurant-staple: frozen bread that had been nuked into the fifth dimension. It was hot enough to power a small village, but hey, at least it was a warm welcome.
The Redemption Arc: Spaghetti Bolognese
Just when I thought I was in for a mediocre night, the Spaghetti Bolognese saved the day. I was bracing for a watery soup, but it was actually pretty great. The sauce was thick, clung to the pasta like a long-lost friend, and actually had a generous amount of meat. It was the MVP of the table, closely followed by my Bloody Caesar, which was spicy, reliable, and didn’t require a search party to locate.
The Verdict:
Corneli is the ultimate “In Case of Emergency” restaurant. The service is a bit of a comedy of errors and the bread is aggressively microwaved, but that Bolognese is a genuine winner. I’d definitely go back—especially if the rest of the city is closed for the holidays (or the apocalypse).

We had a fabulous time here. Excellent food, large portions with a very friendly service. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Christmas, with pleasant music. A mix of 60s, 70s, and more contemporary so everybody happy. Prices also very correct, considering all the food is freshly made, no microwaved shortcuts here. The parmigiana was my absolute favorite. I don’t eat meat so can’t say anything about the meat dishes but they looked yummy.

We dined at Restaurant Corneli in Montréal over the weekend. Parking in the area can be challenging, but once inside, the restaurant offers a refined and inviting atmosphere. We sampled a variety of dishes: the pasta was excellent and a clear highlight, while the pizza was enjoyable and well-prepared. The chicken with mushrooms, however, was less impressive compared to the other options.

What a wonderful family owned restaurant! We went to the one in Little Italy (they also have one in Laval opened a year ago!) and we loved the beautiful setting and quality meal and service! The decor is beautiful! Our waiter Ryan was impeccable, very kind and helpful and he also told us a little bit about the history of this restaurant which is fascinating!! The food was delicious and quite affordable for a nice fancy restaurant. Everyone loved it and we will be back!

Great food, the toasted crusty bread with peppers & oil (hot) was a nice touch. The ravioli was awesome although a bit too rich for me. The crab cakes were outstanding, the best we’ve ever had.
