There are plenty of places to eat when visiting this side of the border. However, if looking for breakfast, … look no more. Great tasting food served efficiently. Portions are large. And! You can grab your pan dulce and either bring it to your table or take it to go. Their pan dulce was not the best we have had. Hence the 4 stars.

Food was delicious & quick to get a table. Service was good and the restaurant & bathrooms were clean. We arrived close to closing ⏰& they were accommodating nonetheless. Also got some bakery items on the way out. And they look like they had quite the ☕️☕️ setup during normal hours.

My brother and I saw Renes post on Fb regarding their milanesa. So we went today and let me tell you. They were massive. Along with beans, bit of salad, rice, and French fries. Hot corn tortillas. I almost forgot chips and sauces. The food was delicious and great live music at that moment.

Sort of a hole in the wall, but All I can say is Excellent!!!! Fast service. I ordered the Shrimp cocktail. I am usually weary of any seafood at any restaurant, even in the States, but I ordered it, and it was seriously the Best Shrimp cocktail I ever had anywhere, even on the coast. Tons of shrimp inside too!, down to the very bottom. Delicious! I tasted their chicken flautas with their rice, and beans and it was perfect! Mmmm. Waiter was very attentive, and fast. Great live music too that wasn’t overly loud. They even have fresh panderia pastries as you leave, that you can buy. Take note, many restaurants may accept credit cards, but you cannot tip on the card. So always carry cash for Tips to thank the hard working food Servers, and for things you may buy on the street. Here I am back in McAllen, and now I am craving Shrimp cocktail, and it has only been two days since I left Progresso Mexico. I am going back!!!

This was my first food experience in Nuevo Progreso. I am glad we walked into this place!
To start, we were given totopos (nacho chips) with cream, American cheese, and shredded White Queso. It was delicious! These are on the house, as starters.
While I waited for my food, I ordered a Michelada with Cerveza Indio. It was dressed with cucumber, green olives, and chamoy. It was so refreshing, and tasted great!
I tried the TAMPIQUEÑA plate as an entrée. It was well-portioned with a very cheesy quesadilla, two chicken enchiladas, beef, rice, refried beans, french fries, and avocado. I loved it!

The coffee is hot, the food is delicious (especially the cinnamon rolls!!) and the the staff is phenomenal. The management here does a good job being clean and mitigating the spread of Covid. I highly recommend dining here.

Fajitas!! Yup..these guys have great fajitas and the salsas are a perfect touch for the tacos. Distilled Water Gallons for the Coffee brought out the aroma and taste just right. Service was fast but with just the right amount of come back again feel. Great place for friends and family to have a meal and just enjoy.

Visited Rene’s for the first time during breakfast time. The place was packed as the city was celebrating Tourism Day. Despite the restaurant being packed, service was excellent, the food was delivered quickly and it was delicious. I ordered a taco of machacado con guevo. The wait staff was very friendly and took our order quickly. Very impressed how good the food was and ability to serve despite being packed.
