My review is specific to the Hot Chocolate Bar. My daughter is a student at Salve so the wife and I enjoy visiting Newport a few times per year. We were happy to visit during the winter season when the Chanler opens the Hot Chocolate Bar on the weekends. The hot chocolate was delicious. It’s surprising that hot chocolate can be THAT good. Sure, it’s pricey, but you’ll never have anything else like it. Everyone in my party stuck to the non alcoholic options but next year I’ll definitely give the spiked options a try. Amazing atmosphere too. You get your drink and then you get to relax on the patio and enjoy the beautiful views. Definitely a must try.

I had a solo birthday dinner here & it was amazing. I ordered the Negroni Mocktail & Scallop Carpaccio. The flavors meshed very well together & everything was fresh. The bread & butter was amazing. The Spanish Octopus was such a delicate dish & the sauce was outstanding. The Opera Cake was very decadent. This restaurant had beautiful ambience & I loved the background music. The staff was so kind to me; especially my server, Izzy, & the chefs, Natalie & Tom. Natalie handmade some beautiful chocolates. I feel blessed to have had this experience at Remy’s. Thank you guys

We came here all the way from New York to celebrate my birthday, but the experience was extremely disappointing. The service in particular left us feeling singled out and unwelcome. Our server, an Asian male waiter, offered no explanation of the menu or drinks, while we clearly noticed other tables around us being treated with warmth and enthusiasm. Even though it was obvious we were celebrating a birthday, not once did he say “happy birthday.” When we asked about a candle, his response was that he had to “go find one,” as if it were a burden. The contrast in treatment compared to other guests was hard to ignore and made us feel like we were being treated differently.

The food was no better. A $70 steak came as two tiny pieces — barely enough for a bite, let alone a meal. I’ve eaten at many restaurants in New York, but I’ve never encountered portions this small for such a steep price. The quality and taste of the dishes were equally underwhelming, far below expectations for the price point.

To be fair, the view and atmosphere are indeed beautiful. But if that’s all you’re looking for, you’re much better off just coming for drinks at the bar. There’s absolutely no reason to spend so much money only to receive this kind of poor service and disappointing food.

Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had, especially on a special occasion like a birthday. Definitely not worth the money, and certainly not a place we would recommend or return to.

The big attraction of this place is the stunning view, which comes at a high price reflected on the food. Though attractively presented and well executed the portions are on the small side and left us hungry again after a couple of hours.
The furnishings and the decor are opulent indoors, so definitely a place for special occasions
They seem to be short staffed and the bartender came across as new to the job and he could have used some help.

This is a beautiful space with spectacular views. That’s what made the experience so disappointing. It feels like the owners know people will come for the view, so they put little effort into the food or service.

The service is comically bad. We had wine spilled on us, the food took over 30 mins to come out of the kitchen, the starters and mains came out together, at the end we were presented with someone else check and their credit card. Those are the lowlights and there was plenty of poor service in between. The food was expensive, the vegetables were undercooked, the meat portions were tiny, and flavor of my steak was off. I would avoid this place and please don’t consider it for a special occasion because you will be sorely disappointed.

Great view with lawn, so it seemed. Miserable lawn maintenance and very uncaring immature staffs from hotel front to restaurant check in today. Was my 5th and will be last visit here. Before lunch at the Cafe, we sat at the lawn waiting for our table, and one member in our group got stung by yellow jacket/bee on her toe. Looking closely, the lawn was so poorly maintained it was not grass but stretch of wild weed/weed flowers that obviously attracted bees all over! We asked for help at the bar, restaurant check in, then got tossed to hotel front. We asked for disinfectant wipe and advil, but they refused to give advil, stating they don’t have one for distribution! Really? The Chanler, ‘unparalleled 5 star luxury hotel’ as they claim, has no emergency kit they can spare for their restaurant guest?! Their hotel may have 5 star look but their staffs are not trained to fit 5 star care. We asked twice for ibuprofen when her toe started to swell. Restaurant check in staff said she would check with front management again but never checked on us till we left.
Slow service, mediocre food, sky high price, uncaring staffs, dirty table we had to ask to be wiped, dangerous lawn with infested bees/yellowjackets!
Uninteresting Campanella pasta $50
4 pcs of scallop on a hot dog bun with discolored salad $36
Chiabatta bread $12 on starter menu is literally a loaf with butter, which they should just service as free appetizer.
Eat before you go there, you will be still hungry after.
What a shame. See the video of yellowjackets on their lawn. Negligent in their property management and staff management. … 5 star luxury.

Update: what an embarrassing response by Chanler!
Chanler says they cannot control nature’s elements. Really? Yes we all spend money to control weeds, insects, pests to keep our backyards safe. Obviously Chanler does not invest in hiring professionals to maintain their lawns for the safety of their guests, even as they have events offered on their lawn. It is just plain negligence!
As for their response to dining experience, Chanler strives to provide exceptional dining experience. How do you strive to provide exceptional experience by serving stale salad that have yellow and red spots? That’s the basics of basic food safety control.
Instead of meaningless fancy words for response, I wish chanler would consider this incident as an oppotunity to make serious improvement to their downhill management.

My wife and I have traveled from Boston to visit The Café at The Chanler to celebrate our 9th Anniversary with a romantic dinner. When we enquired about the dish we’d selected, we learned that the salmon was not cooked the way we like it. That was disappointing, ’cause we had our minds set on having salmon for dinner. In addition, as we do not eat red meat, shellfish, or poultry, there was no other options on the menu. When we told our server, Shannon, we were leaving, she politely apologized, and talked to a woman, named Megan, who I believe was a manager. Megan thoroughly explained the entire menu to us, and tried to help us find something that would please us. My wife decided to order an appetizer. As soon as they brought the order, the Executive Chef Jacob Jasinski, came to our table. He explained how the salmon was cooked, and offered to bring us some samples, so that we could make a decision. We agreed! We tried the samples, and decided to place the order. Tonight, my wife and I have learned a new way to taste salmon, but most importantly we love how we were treated by all members of the staff, and how special they made us feel. When we were leaving Mr. Jasinski approached us again, and told us to call to let him know we were coming, so that he could cook the salmon the way we like it. What a display of great customer service and professionalism by the entire team! They have turned a potentially disappointing evening into a happy one! Definitely, we will be back!

The dinner was a true experience. I first went when the it was Spiced Pear and it’s been one of my favorite culinary experiences ever since. Remys Loose was just as wonderful. In terms of atmosphere, I was grateful they let us sit outside since the air conditioning inside was super aggressive to the point where they offered me a blanket! The service was very good but the food is what will remain the highlight.

Extremely disappointed with this restaurant. My husband and I had eaten here the year prior and the food was okay, but we were mainly drawn in by the views. The ocean views and decor are spectacular, which was the reason we decided to come back again this year. However, this will be the last time we visit this restaurant. At over $100 a person, I would expect better food quality. Portions are on the smaller side and that’s to be expected with more “upscale and specialty” foods. But the food itself is okay at best, the menu is confusing, and the wait staff seemed equally confused. I think the biggest issue is that the restaurant hasn’t found their true identity. The menu is stuffy, but their website claims that they’re a “come as you are and casual” restaurant. Probably their attempt to draw in more individuals and mimic Castle Hill (amazing restaurant) but it’s not working. There were only a few other tables filled and everyone appeared to be having a confusing and disappointing experience. It’s a shame, because the venue has the potential to be really special. Unless they have a major overhaul, I would recommend Castle Hill over this place any day of the week.

If I could give them a 10, I would! The food was delicious (black seabass crudo, yellowtail, and wagyu) – all amazing! The views on the patio are stunning! And, the servers, may have been the highlight of the evening… Personable, professional, and wonderful! Federico at the bar and Nicola as our server. Best ever and we wished they worked in Savannah as we would frequent often! We’ve been to many restaurants in Newport and this is a must!
