Reviews
The portions were good, and the food was served hot and neatly packed. You can tell they care about quality and taste. If you’re craving authentic Indian flavours, this place is a must-try. I’ll definitely be coming back for more!
The food is authentic in taste. The quantity is good. The price is reasonable. The staff members are kind and accommodating.
We had Amma’s chicken, pepper beef and chicken coconut curry with naan. Each dish tasted good.
You get a good value for your money.
We first started off with vegetable puffs and samosas. The puffs were good. The samosas were okay but small in size. We also tried the “Kadak” chai (tea) which was prepared from the tea vending machine but it wasn’t that great.
We then ordered Paneer Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, Chicken Biryani and some Tawa Naans.
We were pretty excited to taste them seeing the good reviews of this kitchen but honestly, none of the dishes were up to standard. They all lacked the essential flavours that one would expect.
The Paneer Tikka Masala had excess oil and the green/red peppers were missing which should have been present according to this dish’s picture in the website menu. It just tasted like onions mixed with tomato purée that had very mild spices. It was a bit sweet.
In addition, the paneer wasn’t even roasted or grilled. It was just plain cottage cheese added to the gravy.
The Chana Masala also lacked the typical flavours of the spices. I could not feel any aromatic spices in it as well and the gravy was almost the same as the Paneer Tikka Masala.
For the Tawa Naans, I specifically asked if they were different than the ready made ones in the market and I was told they were freshly made but I did not find them being freshly made. They were just heated on the pan and tasted like the ready made naans. Very disappointing!
The Chicken Biryani tasted just like rice mixed with some light curry. It wasn’t a biryani at all. No flavours of a typical biryani. It had one leg piece which wasn’t cooked well and tasted unfresh. The Raita along with it wasn’t refreshing either.
Most of the reviews for this kitchen are for South Indian dishes and so I thought of trying their North Indian dishes instead.
May be next time I will try their South Indian items and see if they are worth the hype.
This eatery is expensive as I spent over $70 for the above order and still did not get what I expected.
Update: we just tried their Bangalore Brunch Box and it.is.amazing!!! Totally worth the price and you get A Lot of yummy breakfast items (thindi in Kannada). The vadas were the crispiest, khara bath and kesari bath tasted very homemade, dosa was mindblowing as always and the idlis were the spongiest. Must Try!
I’ve heard that their butter chicken is pretty famous in the community there, that’s our next try for sure. In fact, their entire lunch menu hits a home run for me!
Every item in the box tasted as it does in typical Bangalore darshinis.
We have have had take out from Rekha’s Kitchen couple times before and the masale dosae nails it. Blr style sweet sambar ( new and improved from before) and the spicy chutney are tasty as condiments. Samosa are just about fine but the bangalore style dishes are their USP.
We had tasted food catered from here earlier and no complaints on the taste and portions. Will be soon trying out the non-veg options ans looking forward to the naati style platter. Great place for expats missing Bangalore food.
The hosts are very friendly and easy going. Eagerly waiting for the “ Iyengar Bakery”box”
