Very unique restaurant style. You first have to wait in line, like in a cafeteria. It would explain why people have been outside waiting so many times while I’ve driven by. Then of course make you food choices. Now there corn pudding was on point!! Delicious!! Being a person whom is allergic to black pepper not the best place for me to eat. I had to cut and scrape best I could but even my fiance has admitted it was a lot. The flavor of the meat was great without all of the extra sauces and spices. My honey loved the mustard, they let us buy extra to take home. Since we had so much food it was a good thing the desert was in a separate to go container. They do have everything you need set up when it’s time to go. Containers and bags by the condiments. Not sure how the to go orders work, since the place isn’t built for romantic dinners to go wouldn’t have been bad. All in all we are here for the food. Again smoke flavors were great, flavors on the meat were good, the chicken was a little dry but the sauces were flavorful.

Typically I don’t cater to the Texas style BBQ as I was born and raised in Georgia and thus I am a fan of porkine based bbq. And the Texas folks know not what to do with that fabulous animal. Redwood serves cafeteria style with a variety of meats including pork. Of course I got the pork and surprisingly not disappointed. Very moist with no added sauce. They do have a variety of regional sauces and I tried the mustard and vinegar ones which were both good. I’ll be back to try other meats. The beans were not your typical baked beans either. They had a variety of beans and it hadn’t turned to mush from overcooking. Just so you know while I was there one of the staff marked thru the brunt ends. That tells me they’re not about quality and no quantity. A good sign.

Went back and got my burnt ends. Very flavorsome with just enough juicy fat to keep my coat shiny. Damn good.

The food… some of the best, if not the best bbq I have ever had!

I got the two meat platter. I got the brisket, pulled pork, and added a jalapeño cheddar sausage. I got two sides with it and I went with the corn pudding and mac and cheese! All made in house, of course. They also let me sample the pimento cheese! My travel buddy and co-worker, Jackson, got the burnt ends platter with the same sides.

The brisket was the perfect texture. So juicy and tender. The bark was peppery and perfect. I was lucky enough to get an end piece so I got to really get the full flavor of the bark. It was AMAZING. The pork had a really good smokey flavor and also had the perfect texture. The sausage had a good snap and the flavor was chef’s kiss. The corn pudding was recommended and I went with it. I am so glad I did. I knew it was gonna be good, but it exceeded my expectations. The mac and cheese tasted like I was hoping it would. The burnt ends were top tier. So tender, succulent, and all the other great adjectives you can think of. I tried all if their sauces, too. They have a great variety and you will find what you are looking for.

We went out to look at the smokers and they invited us in and gave us a quick tour! We got to see wings, brisket, and not pictured was the pork all on the smokers. Their smokers were so full and the smells were what I hope heaven smells like. So many briskets!!

Again, thank you for being so hospitable to us. We truly appreciate it. I got some of the seasoned pork rinds to bring home. Love them. You MUST stop by any of their 3 locations if you are in the Hampton Roads area. Go support a great local business.

Best BBQ in Hampton Roads! Pitmaster Bob is passionate and dedicated to his craft, and it shows in the quality of the food! On their Instagram page, they have educational videos detailing their entire process. They are out at the pits cooking barbecue at 3 AM! No shortcuts here! The quality is absolute top notch, and surpasses every other barbecue place I’ve been to!

I work nearby, so I’ve been going there about once a week. Every time I order something different from the menu, so at this point I’ve tried nearly everything. Safe to say, it’s all delicious! The meats on the menu are great, but every day they also have rotating specials. They’re all good, but some of my top favorites are the Feast Burger, Taco Tuesday, Dumpster Fire, and El Choppo Combo. Their burnt ends are also a favorite, they’re savory and tender, and practically melt in your mouth with barbecue goodness! The sides are tasty as well, I love cilantro and their cilantro slaw really hits the spot. The collard greens are equally as mouth-watering. They’re frequently sold out, but if you get the chance to try them, you’ll understand why!

The only thing better than the food here is the customer service. Everyone is very friendly, and quick to offer suggestions if you need them. Yes occasionally there’s a long line, but it moves quickly, and the food is definitely worth the wait. If you’re dining in, they follow up with you and make sure you enjoyed everything. They always make me feel well taken care of, and brighten my day! Good people work here! I’d like to give a shout out to Heather, Savannah, Chelsea, Mariah, and ESPECIALLY Candy. Looking forward to seeing y’all again soon!

Gin and Tonic says it was good, but I wouldn’t shank my momma for this food. Burrito says when you’ve been drinking this brisket melts in your mouth like a dream. Dumpling says he will be back to try the rest of the menu, which was already sold out near closing. If you go late, you may because when they sell out, they are done for the day. We will definitely be back hungry and earlier. Get the mustard sauce. Do it

The food was great! The people and atmosphere was awesome and most of all, it’s consistent. This may have been my 10th time to Redwood, but my first time to the Suffolk location. Yes, depending on the time you show up, you may have to wait in line, but that is a testament to how good the food is. Bob, Floyd and The crew take great pride in making sure that your food is hot and delicious.
I had the meat sweats platter, with collard greens and mac & cheese which is more than enough for two hungry people. They also offer tours of their smokehouse to anyone who’s interested.
As a Texas native, I appreciate the time and the passion they have for their craft and they execute it very well. Thank you for a great meal and we will see you next time.

1st time at this location!!! Yum!!! It’s bigger than Norfolk, but just as good & great service! The special pastrami sandwich was amazing and the sides, really good: collards, mac & cheese and potato salad!

The Garlic & Green Onion HOMEMADE Sausage was EXTRA SPECIAL!!

Redwood Smoke Shack BBQ delivers a true barbecue experience with bold flavors and high-quality meats. I tried the Meat Sweats Sampler, which provided a fantastic overview of the pitmaster’s skill, showcasing tender, smoky, and well-seasoned cuts. Alongside it, we had the buffalo-style chicken wings and brisket burnt ends, both packed with deep BBQ flavor and a satisfying smoky kick.

The sides were just as impressive. The broccoli salad was a standout with its fresh, flavorful crunch, while the mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and indulgent. The fries and slaw were both well-executed, complementing the meats perfectly. One unique highlight was the smoked sour pickle, a massive, tangy bite with a bold salt and smoke blend unlike any pickle I’ve had before.

While the flavors were spot on, my only complaint was that the food wasn’t as hot as expected, which kept me from giving it a full five-star rating. That said, the quality, variety, and flavor make Redwood Smoke Shack a must-visit for BBQ lovers. I’ll definitely be returning!

Gave food 4-Stars only because the meats were not hot…warm. That did not take away from the smoked favor nor the taste…personally like my good hot. The greens were tasty as well, something I could get again. The fries were cooked just right and not overloaded with seasoning honestly I couldn’t taste the seasoning….good as I don’t like seasoning on my fries. The service was top notch!!! A kindhearted gentleman greeted everyone in line, asked it was your 1st visit made recommendations just really made me feel appreciated that we visited. Plus, he stop by the tables to see how things were and gladly removed our trash!!! A man with a heart to serve others!!! Trust me we will be back!!!

Always loved everything we’ve gotten from the Norfolk location, were in Suffolk coming up on dinner time so we had to stop in for their $5 Smashed Burger and Chopped Beef Sammich – both excellent! Sammich absolutely massive, and goes perfectly with their house BBQ sauce.
