We had to add a quest for the best lobster roll to our one week adventure to Maine. While I maintain there is no bad lobster roll, there is a bit of a disappointment in investing an average of $30. in what turns out to be an average lobster roll. While I am not saying Red’s is definitely the best, it is the best we have come across. My advice is that it should be your first lobster roll to try, all others to be judged by Red’s standards. Fried Zucchini was great as was the Sea Scallops. We waited almost an hour in line, but would do it again happily for the experience.

Arrived at 11:45 on a grey/rainy day, waited about 40 min in line. The ambiance was lively while waiting. Ordered 2 lobster rolls, plated lobster, fried clams, whoopie pie and Moxie soda. The lobster rolls are the best, there was so much lobster that the bread disappeared. They are definitely the star, the fried clams were really average. The place is a tiny cabin with maybe 3 people working inside, but they were efficient for such a small space. The waiting line was much longer when we left, I can see why some people wait 1.5-2hrs.

This place gets really busy, so be prepared to wait in line for up to 2 hours. We went on a Friday at lunchtime, and that was a mistake. Overall, the lobster roll and Rachel with Haddock were amazing. They probably gave the most lobster per roll of any place I have been, so it is worth the money. I don’t think I would wait in line for that long again, but I am glad I tried it.

Literally cannot write enough praises about Red’s, Debbie, and her girl gang! We waited about 1.5 hours in line while it on and off rained. It was worth every minute of the wait. Debbie and her girls were so kind, welcoming, and made sure we got all the important things to try on our first visit. The lobster roll was the real star of the show! We were blown away by how much lobster meat was on the roll. We will definitely be back next time we are in that part of the country!

Our first Lobster Roll in Maine was absolutely delicious! Lobster was cooked perfectly and served with plenty of drawn butter to dip it in. Market price of the day made it a $36 roll but it was big enough for us to share. Worth the drive! The summer crowds aren’t here yet so we didn’t have to wait in a line. They said they sell 14.5 tons of lobster a year which tells you this little stand is doing everything right.

Best lobster roll ever. Would be worth a 1 hour wait but I waited almost 2 hours so not sure its worth that. They should really streamline their menu to only lobster rolls and speed up the process. Cash only.

Ordered the lobster roll, which was excellent quality and the largest portion I have received. The line was so long they offered us shrimp and water while waiting in line. The fried shrimp were delicious. I also ordered the blueberry cake, which was essentially a blueberry muffin. The service, however, is extremely slow. I went up to order my food after waiting 2 hours in line and the cashier asked me to wait a few minutes before taking my order (She was helping to plate other orders). I understand it’s a small establishment, but I they really need to look into ways to provide faster service and upgrade to take credit cards and not just cash only. Next time I’m in the area I will probably try another lobster shack if the line is long.

This was our first time at Reds and we will be back! We stood in line for 90 minutes but it didn’t feel that long as the hospitality was a 10/10. Umbrellas were offered to shade us from the sun, waters were passed out for humans and dogs and the staff were amazing! We ordered the lobster roll ($34), BLT, and the puff dog with a blueberry soda from Maine. The lobster roll was enough for 2 people – an entire lobster on a toasted bun with butter on the side! The BLT was perfect as was the corn dog. Thank you Reds!

Outstanding food. Expect to wait an hour, on average, in line. Part of the reason is that they handle each person on a personal level at the one counter. It is expensive, even for Lobsterolls, but well worth it. I got a lobster roll and a Kelp burger. I love to try new things. The lobster roll was excellent, as it always is. One roll has at least a lobsters worth of meat burying the roll.

The line is almost never worth it but on those rare occasions that it’s less than 10 people long, I will stop. I have fond childhood memories of my Dad taking me for hot dogs and onion rings as a reward for good grades. I know the lobster roll gets all the praise and it is great/worthy of that praise but the onion rings are the deal standout. You can make a lobster roll just as good at home with little effort, but not those onion rings – crispy, batter dipped, sweet onion; you don’t even need any condiments. Lobster roll market price was $34 on our visit which is a pretty good deal considering the current market price of picked lobster.
