I went with the country fried steak served with mashed potatoes and fresh fruit, and we finished the meal with a strawberry cheesecake for dessert, everything was absolutely incredible. The flavors were fresh, well-prepared, and satisfying, making each bite a treat. I also had a burger, and it might be one of the freshest I’ve had in years—the beef clearly tasted locally sourced and high quality. Every dish we tried was thoughtfully made, and the attention to detail really showed. The atmosphere added to the experience as well: calm, welcoming, and quiet, since we arrived just before the dinner rush. It felt like a perfect balance of excellent food and relaxed dining, making it a spot I’ll definitely return to for both casual meals and special treats.

We had the best experience at Red Eye Diner. Felix and Michael are truly great servers. Felix went above and beyond with hospitality and attention to detail. The shrimp and grits are so good, and we can’t wait to come back to try the chicken and waffles. Thanks for the great food, atmosphere, and especially the service.

Andrea was our server and all I can say is wow!!! What a very well mannered young man! I got the California burger with fries and my husband got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and fruit we got a strawberry cheesecake for dessert and all I can say is the food was incredible. One of the freshest burgers I’ve had in a very long time the beef you could tell was locally sourced and very fresh the food all around was wonderful the atmosphere was great it was quiet but we came during hours right before dinner rush. This dinner is open 24 hours the staff was kind and the building was clean. What a great experience.

Wow. Just wow. Today I recommended to my friends after a laborious workshop that we go to Red Eye Diner, see, I’ve been to Red Eye before, and it has always been great, but tonight really blew me away. The service (Mike) was absolutely outstanding. Our server went above and beyond to make sure our table was not only entertained, but beyond satisfied. I wanted a cup of lemons? I got a cup of lemons. I wanted ANOTHER cup of lemons? (Fig 1) I got ANOTHER cup of lemons, and i LOVE lemons. Ive been to so many other diners which had never in the past provided me with as many lemons as i liked. The service was so good that Max and the Charlottes (my band)’s return to Red Eye is guaranteed. That Mike is magical, (fig 2) and deserves a raise, a promotion, or anything, i wouldnt know, im personally unemployed. Expect more positive reviews from Max, i come here whenever I’m in the area. I could go on about the atmosphere, the traditional diner look, the great prices, the rest of the great staff, but tonights spotlight, and every spotlight should be on Mike. Thank you for the service, it made all our days end on an amazing note. Im so happy you were our server because you touched our hearts and made us laugh. I wish the 200$ tip i gave was real

The food was nothing special. It may be hard to find. It’s in the back of a cool allay with multiple businesses. Highly recommend having the hashbrowns. I had asked for my hashbrowns to be be extra crispy. I also recommend asking for honey butter for the French toast or for the waffles.

Red Eye has the BEST grits in Charlotte. I’m not sure how they achieve the consistency and creamy taste but they have it figured out! I ordered Fish and Grits. This is not in the menu as a meal however they can pair the two items together a la carte. You will not be disappointed.

What the hell is going on at this scam of a restaurant. I came here back in 2024 after an AJR concert at spectrum center and me and my big belly hubby were ravenous. We ordered the fried chicken with mac an cheese and it was delicious!!! We were back in the area recently and wanted to relive that delicious night. We placed the same order and I can’t even start to describe what we received… some people say a picture speaks a thousand words but this one can only say blechhhh. This meal was awful, and to make things worse, they installed one of those infernal claw machine doohickeys that are horribly noisy and inconvenient. Needless to say, we will NOT be returning to this farce of a diner…

The food and service was incredible, my waiter Gregory was beyond compare HOWEVER, as a long time customer, I have to say that the newly installed claw machine is ABHORRENT. I am not opposed to claw machines as a concept, but the placement of this one was absolutely gobsmackingly foolish. If one was trying to enjoy their meal in the booth, they would be constantly harassed by children, or much worse, the type of smelly adults that these machines so often attract.

The food is great, too (even though it’s a lot of carbs/sugar). We had the chicken & waffles, the shrimp & grits, and a biscuit sandwich.
Honestly, I’ve never fully appreciated chicken & waffles, because it seems to dry for me, but it seemed good as far as chicken & waffles go (the dish seems meant to be dry, so we only get them to experience how a new place does them for comparison).
The chicken & grits were great, and will probably be my go-to in the future. The biscuit was light and buttery (definitely not dry like the chicken and waffles).
As a side note, they don’t take Apple Pay or other tap payment methods. So make sure you have cash or a card before going. Maybe chalk that up to a more authentic (rather than modern) experience in a classic diner.
Next time I’m downtown and hungry after midnight, I’m definitely heading back here. Great place overall.
