I had the grilled catfish with mac & cheese and baked beans cornbread on the side
Everything was very nice except the cornbread it tasted like i was invited to a black cookout but somebody’s white neighbor brought cornbread.
Notes: fyi side portions are small however the fish portion was nice!
Also for dessert i had the peach cobler because they ran out of Red Velvet cake my first choice and Sweet potato pie my second choice the peach cobler was ok not bad but not great
Service i waited from 2:40pm to 3:35pm to get my meal on a Sunday after church 55mins g however the food was hot at least and the reason i say that is because there were some ladies who ordered before me and they say their meals were cold so the biggest problem was service our waiter was the same and after he served them he never came back so they could tell him their food was cold and i saw a pattern that waiters were not enough to check on people to get feedback the need more waitress! A manager came out to take their complaint but did nothing and she didn’t even apologize–> please fix these problems asap because we need to support out black businesses but we also need excellence from our black community also!

On Dec. 12, 2025, we visited the beautiful hideaway. We were met at Tonya and, late Esmeralda. Both, excellent. The restaurant is is warm and inviting. We ordered the fried porkchops, blackeyes peas, rice, okra/tomatoes, smothered porkchops, and hamburger. All so very delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. You have to come here. This restaurant is the spot.

Salmon was raw, yams were spoiled! The red velvet cornbread was a joke!!! lol. We were a Party of 25 with reservations for 6:30. We Walked in table set, we sat down. Servers started taking orders for meals and drinks. A hour later some of the food started to arrive which were auctioned off. “Who order etc..”
1 1/2 goes by and half of the table didn’t get their food. 10 dinners were missing, while the server said “it slipped her mind putting in our order”. Now we have been sitting for two hours.
Prior to us waiting, a group of 10 men walked in, (looked like regulars) they immediately took their orders, food was received and they paid and left. While only half our table was still waiting for food!
Our party was still missing 10 dinners. 9 pm we finally had to address the owner who NEVER came to see if the party was set! We were preparing to leave and the owner says “your food is ready if you still want it”. We took the boxes food and left.

Do not waste your money! The food is disgusting! The corn bread was dry as a bone, the Mac and cheese they should be ashamed of! Watery, flavorless and gross. When I told the waiter I wanted to change the Mac and cheese for something else because it didn’t taste good, he copped an attitude. Brings out the yams and honestly tasted like there was a ton of cinnamon dumped on it. Cannot get these flavors out of my mouth! Not good at all.

My husband and I were trying to decide on a place to eat for lunch and we just accidentally came across a restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, FL called, “The Red Velvet” We had never heard of it, but decided to give it a try because we wanted something different. Much to our delight, the food was delicious. It was hard to choose which one I wanted to try because all the selections were great selections, but I had finally chosen The Fried Chicken with Black-eyed peas and Yellow Rice with gravy. My husband chose the Fried Catfish with Collard Greens and Yams. We tried each other’s meal and we could not pick over the other because they were so good. I also tried the traditional cornbread while my husband decided to try their signature Red Velvet Cornbread. Make it a point to try this restaurant, you won’t regret it. I promise!

I’ve been bugging my husband to come to this restaurant and finally. So sorry but we were both highly unsatisfied and disappointed. The wings were far too salty for our liking, we did not finish them. The yellow rices looked like grits and had some type of processed looking gravy on it. The Mac n cheese taste great and the flop. The red velvet cornbread probably was supposed to be the highlight but it was bland. I changed my mind about ordering the red velvet cake for desert after I tasted a piece of the cornbread. We were truly disappointed this Sunday.

TRASH, I mean I was highly disappointed when I ordered chicken and fries combo for $18 and some change and want to give me in return an old grease fried chicken. I’m sure they did not change their oil. And the lady suggested that I bring the chicken back and that she will give me a refund. The overall customer and food were a terrible experience.

Disgusted, chicken was simultaneously underdone and burnt. The overpriced chicken was dark brown and fried in old fishy grease. The fries were soggy they tasted like freezer fries if you know what i mean. Overall would never eat here again. Also restaurant did not look up to code. DO NOT VISIT

We were here for an event and we ended up returning the next day because the food was just that good. The Salmon is to die for….My husband fell in love with the smothered chicken and pork chops…also the regular and Red Velvet cornbread! The Pink Lemonade….OMG, SO GOOD!! Now….a little constructive criticism…is the side dishes are a little pricey for the portion. I ordered a side of rice and got a small cup (not even a healthy portion) for $5…the price is ok as long as it’s….WORTH IT! Also, I ordered a turkey wing dinner to go and there was only 1 turkey wing, turkey wings are not expensive and dinners in mostly all soul food restaurants include 2 meats. My husband had smothered chicken and pork chop and both meals had 2 pieces of both. One other thing, both days we ordered something with the expectation of getting it only to receive disappointing news that….You didn’t have it! When you are out of something let your waitress’ know this, so when customers place the order they can communicate that. Other than that….The food is AMAZING! The customer service was even more Amazing the young lady that waited on us both days was so sweet! When we are in town again we will be returning…..hopefully to some healthier portions for the prices…..(sides) both dine in and take out, a Full menu! Oh and one more thing….I absolutely Loved the old school music vibe…..Yessss!
