We just moved to the area, and we were excited to try our local pizza place, they have kids items on the menu. They advertise soft serve seemed like a home run for our little ones.

The service was reasonable, The food that we got was good, I really liked the house salad. I thought it was very refined for a pizza place.

The issue we ran into was time, and the automatic gratuity.

We sat down at 5: 20 on a Friday with about an hour to kill, my wife works nights in the ER and I needed to get my family fed and back on the road by 6:25 to get her to work on time.

Conservatively, I’d say we had our order in by 5:35, but I knew we were in a hurry so I feel like I ordered as soon as we sat down. House salad, cheesy bread and a sausage mushroom pie.

By 6:00 the salad had come out and I was feeling a little nervous, at about 6:05 I let the waitress know that we had to get out of there in about 20 minutes.
This might be where I messed up. Maybe I should have communicated. We only have an hour when we sat down, but I didn’t feel time crunch because the restaurant was only about half full when we sat down.

We did end up getting the cheesy bread, but the pizza did not make it to a box by the time we had to leave.

My frustration comes in that I still paid for that pizza and they added a 20% gratuity on top of it, the cashier did throw in a Rice krispie treat so clearly she understood that there might be some kind of frustration.

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I should not have expected to been able to get a pizza in under an hour, but that was my expectation and it wasn’t met.

Will try again when we got more time.

My wife and I went in before a Blazer game a few weeks ago.

Cool spot but pizza was just okay (should’ve been better for the price).

What really got me was the rude customers service. Not only was the wait long and the cashier acted like we inconvenienced her; but we had no choice on the mandatory 20% tip (rewarding bad customer service). Owner should pay them better instead of placing that on customers who are treated poorly by entitled employees.

Meh.

Red Sauce has my whole heart. Their charred, bubbly crust pies are deservedly one of my favorites in all of Portland, but the seasonally focused salads, soft serve, and Snoopy phone make our family’s hearts sing.

My favorite pizza in NE Portland. The crust is perfectly charred and the sauce tastes great. On the weekends they offer lunch specials and the Italian hoagie on their fresh sourdough is delicious! It’s one of my favorite sandwiches right now. It makes for a nice ‘excuse’ to take a trip down into Portland. Enjoy!

Red Sauce has been consistently delicious over the many years we’ve been customers. High quality ingredients plus a flavorful dough with perfectly chewy crust. And my god, the hoagies – homemade sourdough bread stuffed with sopressata, mortadella, pepperoni, provolone and fixins. The best in town. So, the food is wonderful but what’s really kept us coming back is the staff who have been friendly and attentive even on their busiest nights. Red Sauce also uplifts other small business and amplifies community care and mutual aid efforts – what more could you want from your neighborhood pizza shop?

Great topping combinations, excellently chewy crust, casear salad has nice variety of greens in it including kale! The chocolate chip cookies here are a must and they also have soft serve ice cream and pineapple dole whip!

Ordering online ahead of time is really easy and there’s instructions online for how to reheat/refresh your takeout pizza to enjoy it at its best. (In oven at 425 for 2-3 min) highly recommend doing this.

In a town full of amazing pizza, Red Sauce is my favorite. Whenever we have visitors from out of town, at least one night is spent getting take out from here because it is always a hit! You pay for quality. 420 breadsticks a MUST.

I’ve been coming to Red Sauce fairly consistently over the last year +, and overall I’d say I’ve had a decently good experience, mainly because the quality of the food is great. The last few months I’ve noticed a slight decline; however, not enough to deter me, as I want to support and hope that things would get better.

When my partner and I went tonight and thought we were ordering one pizza, we received a different pizza entirely. Sure, some ingredients were the same as what we expected to order based from what we read from the menu, but what we got was clearly different (doesn’t look like snap peas to me, but I could be mistaking them for lemons and squash….). Not the biggest deal, and we ate it, but definitely was disappointed we didn’t get what we expected. Had the menu been updated and correct or had someone just told us “hey, we ran out of snap peas so our special has changed” we could’ve known and wouldn’t have ordered it in the first place.

The staff is definitely nice no denying that but beware that if you sit on the patio there isn’t much interaction between the two parties. For example, not being told the special was different because there wasn’t any discussion about changes. I’m more than happy to do a 20% gratuity to help provide health care/living wage/etc, but with it I would hope that there’d be a level of connectivity between restaurant and customer. There seemed to be a disconnect beyond running food, as there wasn’t any follow ups of “how is everything? Can I help with x,y,z?”

I am also aware after reading other reviews that the owner will probably have something negative to say about me rather than just taking critique and hopefully making changes. So be it. Overall not a bad experience, but definitely sour from the lack of consistency, and not just the unexpected lemons on my pizza.

The food was decent and the service was good but I thought the mandatory 20 percent gratuity was a bit presumptuous and they charged a bit much for the side of ranch dipping sauce at .75 cents. I mean I was going to give a 20 percent tip but to make it mandatory is entitled and no I don’t think in restrospect the staff deserved it or were particularly nice. They were not. Aside from the in your face political decor and the other reasons I won’t be coming back in. Their rating went from 4.5 to 4.4 I’m afraid but it reflects my experience. Dining here left a bad taste in my mouth and it wasn’t from the food.

Hey, after I read this owners disgusting responses to customers one star reviews such as “Ur garbage” and other passive aggressive ultra rude stuff i’m changing my review from 2 to 1 stars. Evil is real. I’d stay away.

In a city full of incredible food, especially pizza, Red Sauce shines as bright as anybody. One of our go-to neighborhood spots and should be yours as well.

Some folks don’t like their 20% automatic gratuity, but we’re happy to contribute and usually tip that way anyhow. Restaurants have been feeling the squeeze just like a lot of us.

**The pies pictured are added just for fun, but are actually some we made at home. Theirs look far better. Go find out for yourself!!**
