This afternoon, we made a pit stop on our way home and decided to try the Texas dogs and tots. The hot dogs were great and the tots were crispy and enjoyable. The prices were reasonable and the staff was very welcoming. The desserts appeared amazing – I will have to try something next time.

Delicious food at a relatively new spot in Bellefonte. I have been there twice so far.
They have a decent sized menu with very low prices and great tasting food. Quite a bit dessert menu too of homemade cakes and pies. My last trip I had a bacon cheeseburger. Really good crisp bacon and the burger had flavor of a beef bouillon marinade it was really, I like when you can taste a burger and not just all the condiments.

The atmosphere is bland, I think they’re working to get a music system up.

The Red Rooster diner was the only diner we saw off this particular stretch of 80! 3 miles off the exit in Bellefonte, PA and the friendly service and fantastic food made it WELL worth the tiny detour!

Oh, where to begin! Walking into this diner felt like stepping into a Norman Rockwell Painting with the unmistakable scent of syrup and coffee that clings to the air like a warm hug from 1955. We were genuinely excited. The menu? A perfect throwback. Exactly what you’d hope for in a charming little roadside classic.

Our waitress was a gem—young, cheerful, and impressively attentive. She hit all the right notes, and honestly, she deserves a five-star diner of her own. The Hunger Board, offering meals for those down on their luck, was a heartwarming and beautiful touch. More places should take note.

Now… the food.

Here’s the thing: when you order the “Goulash Special,” your stomach starts dreaming of slow-cooked comfort, maybe something that’s been simmering all day with love. What you don’t expect is the unmistakable beep beep of a microwave followed by your plate arriving suspiciously fast—and suspiciously steaming in that peculiar, too-even way.

I tried to ignore it until I noticed multiple plates being retrieved from that same corner with the soft glow of radiation. It was like watching a nostalgia-themed episode of “Kitchen Shortcuts: The Series.” Might I gently suggest that if reheating is the name of the game, perhaps move the microwave somewhere not in direct line of sight? There’s a certain magic to a diner, and sadly, watching my comfort food do a lap in the microwave before it does one in my stomach kind of breaks the spell.

To sum it up: A lot to love, especially the heart behind the place. Just maybe let the microwave live in the back, where diner dreams can stay uncrushed.
