Although we requested a high chair upon arrival, we were seated in the passageway between the kitchen and the dining area, and the high chair was never brought to us. The food was mostly good — the burger and macaroni were delicious — but the fries were very dry and lacked flavor.
Because we never received the high chair, our daughter stood near the table, and staff told us she was blocking their way, even though the restaurant had plenty of open seating where our family could have been placed more comfortably. Some interactions with the staff felt unfriendly, possibly due to our limited English, and a comment to my wife about talking too loudly was made publicly, which felt uncomfortable.
We also noticed an employee sitting in the dining area doing paperwork while giving us dissatisfied looks, which added to the overall discomfort. Lastly, the table dedicated to veterans is positioned directly next to the restroom, which struck us as somewhat disrespectful. I tried to express myself very softly and politely, thank you.
We hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future guests.
The spread of staff seemed unbalanced, servers are taking care of more tables than they can handle causing them to forget a few things while there seems to be more hosts than needed.
You’ll get charged a fee for playing games on the tablet, $2.99 for us. I guess we didn’t look close enough to realize it wasn’t free.
The food? It’s Red Robin. Burgers, fries, and sauces that make you question your cholesterol and your life choices. They’ve got bottomless fries, which sounds amazing until you realize you’re just eating potato infinity while your kids ask if they can order a milkshake the size of a traffic cone.
One time I saw Max Unger there. If you don’t know who Max Unger is, you’re probably not a Seahawks fan. Or you think linemen are just large dads who wandered onto the field. He was just sitting there, being enormous and polite. I didn’t say anything. I just stared like a normal person. “Is that Max Unger?” “No, honey, that’s just a very confident man with a neck wider than his head.”
Inside, they’ve got photos of Newport High School sports teams on the walls. It’s like a teenage shrine. There are always Newport students there, probably because it’s the only place where you can eat fries and feel like you’re in a Nike commercial. But don’t worry, if you go to another high school, they’ll still take your money. “Do you go to Newport?” “No.” “That’s okay. Your money still works.”
Service was fine. Our server was friendly and didn’t flinch when I asked for extra campfire sauce like I was negotiating a treaty. And I swear the chef, I think his name was Chef Randy, walked by and said, “We don’t just grill burgers. We grill dreams. Sometimes medium rare.” Which is beautiful and also slightly concerning.
Four stars. Would’ve been five, but I’m still not sure if I was eating in a restaurant or loitering in a mall vestibule. Either way, I left full, confused, and slightly inspired.
