Breakfast spot in Ham Lake closes after decades in business
The Red Ox Café, located along Hwy. 65, announced its final day serving customers was Wednesday. The building has served breakfast since the late 1950s.

This is the place for breakfast in the north metro. The haystacker is absolutely delicious. All the waitresses are super friendly and your coffee cup never empties. The food comes out quick and fresh and the prices are very reasonable. The homemade toast here is also fantastic. I definitely recommend.

Visited from out of town with our family, even with a large number of us, the wait staff was quick, amazingly friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere reminds me of trips to the small town cafe we went to all the time growing up. The food was cooked perfectly and the serving size was huge. Going out for Sunday breakfast might be a new tradition when we come to visit. It’s an absolute gem of a place. Thanks for the great first experience from every single one of the staff.

This was the worst dining experience I have had possibly ever. Extremely slow service and not even very friendly staff. My food was absolutely terrible. My omelet was the driest, saddest omlet I have ever had. It tasted microwaved and had barely any meat and it was the all meat omelet. My sons oatmeal was terribly dry. My other son’s biscuits and gravy came out cold. I heard the cook complaining in the back and the waitress was yelling at another employee right in front of all the customers then proceeded to talk bad about him very loudly once he left the room. I will never, ever go back here again. I highly suggest finding somewhere else to go.

1st time eating here. Very bland food. Had a steak sandwich, cooked medium rare, came cooked well done and NO seasoning. Fries were plain old crinkle fries that were over cooked, Ruben sandwich had very little meat on it and the meat that was on it was very tough. Would not go out of my way to eat here.

Waitress was wonderful. I asked for no ham in my omlette, and when it was made wrong she told me in advance. And I’ll take an honest mistake, over bringing it out and then noticing any day.

Great morning breakfast dinner small and very polite staff. Be sure to read and understand their way of pricing so you you dont get shocked when bill comes in. Make sure you specify your how you want your eggs or there going to be hard.
