Breakfast at the Red Marlin wasn’t as good as expected. It seems that each time I return the buffet has less and less items. I commented to the waiter that the breakfast as more like that at a Hyatt Place than what I usually get at a Hyatt Regency. As Globalist our breakfast was a no charge benefit for us…the recipe showed $90 for two with Orange juice and a cappuccino…very expensive for the slim offering with few items. The second morning we skipped the free breakfast at the restaurant and ate elsewhere.

What has been one of our favorite properties the HRMB seems to be skimping on F&B while also letting the building and furniture show its age.

I will most likely return but may stay at the La Jolla HR to compare on my next trip to SD. A great staff keeping a historic property as well as they can. The lowly breakfast was really a let down and may be the impetus to stay elsewhere.

The customer service skills were amazing, one of the waitresses offered me a free desert because they had took a while to take our order, it’s my birthday today and that made my whole evening I will never forget her and that kind gesture. Aside from that our food and service was perfect as well as atmosphere with a gas lit fire while we dine. Thank you red marlin for practicing such amazing customer service skills.

We were staying at the Hyatt and stopped by for dinner – Monday without a reservation. Got a coveted window seat (charging for seats is a bit ridiculous – they charge 20 for a window seat reservation and 50 for a fire pit). It was not busy on Monday night. The food was solid – the calamari was a highlight – loaded mashed potatoes were great, iceberg salad solid, and the filet was good, the sauce was great just needed more of it. The scalloped potatoes they give you are not very good. The service was solid and drinks good. This place is overpriced by about 5-10$ per dish. 14$ for fries is a bit crazy. 50 for shrimp scampi, again just 10$ over market. Drinks were the same about 3-5 over market. Overall good experience but most likely won’t be back.

Frank took care of us from the minute we were seated. The clam chowder is absolutely delicious! Same for the ribeye. Calamari is a must try as well.

Perfect service & memorable food. We’ll be back!

We stopped by just for dessert and were not disappointed! I had the warm apple tart, which was perfectly spiced and comforting, and the chocolate ganache cake was rich, decadent, and absolutely delicious. The service was excellent from start to finish. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit if you have a sweet tooth!

I dined in a couple of times and did takeaway for dinner. The view overlooking the harbor was pretty, and it was a relaxing way to start the day. The morning staff were attentive, and I was able to get some work done while I ate breakfast. I think the food was okay for the cost, it might be that the dinner offerings are better.

I am so happy to give my review: Red Marlin is excellent! The food is so tasty and fresh. The staff was very courteous, attentive, and responsive. The atmosphere is relaxed and elegant. Sits are comfortable, and the view of the harbor is beautiful.
I would like to reiterate that the food was delicious, the portions were just right for one person, and maybe share a bit. You can tell that every dish was made with fresh, great quality ingredients. I’ll be back for sure.

Last Wednesday we swung by the Red Marlin at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay for a quick nightcap after dinner offsite. We arrived just after they had closed for the evening (their Dinner & Lounge hours typically run to about 9–9:30 pm), so we were ready to call it when the bartender stepped out, asked if we were only looking for drinks, and kindly reopened long enough to pour a final round. We ordered double bourbons, grabbed seats at the bar, and swapped stories while he finished closing tasks—professional, efficient, and friendly throughout. The setting here looks out over Mission Bay, which is part of the appeal and a nice way to end a day in San Diego. We appreciated the hospitality and the “yes” attitude at the end of a shift; small gestures like that earn repeat business.

Beautiful atmosphere. Ubaldo was so so so attentive and sweet, he poured our beer and everything. The guy in training (I forget his name sorry) was also sweet. A great experience! Thank you!
