We stopped into Red Lion Grog House for a late lunch and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. We were warmly greeted the moment we walked in and seated right away, which set a great tone for the meal.

I ordered a side of their signature hand‑cut chips. Our server made sure to clarify that they’re American‑style fries rather than the chunky chips you might find in Europe. Either way, they were absolutely delicious.

My wife chose the Reuben Sandwich with a side of coleslaw, and she couldn’t stop talking about how good it was. The sliced corned beef, sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, and 1000 Island dressing on marbled rye came together perfectly.

We wrapped up with their Elephant Ear dessert, inspired by the Indiana State Fair, and it was the perfect sweet finish to the meal.

Service was outstanding throughout. It was friendly, attentive, and impressively quick. The food arrived promptly and was clearly prepared with care. The historic character of the building adds even more charm to the experience.

A wonderful spot for great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!

So sad our experience went this way..was excited for the Scotch Eggs and Fish & Chips. The eggs honestly weren’t bad but the fish was so subpar it was embarrassing. Grease soaked and not crispy at all. Fried pickles were good but seemed like they arent made in-house

Red Lion Grog House offers a cozy, pub-style atmosphere with a definite Irish flair. The decor leans toward the darker, dingier side, but there’s a certain charm to it—and the warm and welcoming staff more than make up for any visual gloom.

I tried the Reuben with slaw, which came on rye bread that struck a perfect balance between crispy and soft. While they craft their sauces and slaw in-house, the sauerkraut is not made from scratch, which felt like a slight letdown given their otherwise homemade approach.

We also sampled their “famous” fish and chips. The fish was fried to a lovely golden brown and delivered a satisfying crunch—definitely a solid choice. The shepherd’s pie was hearty and comforting, resembling a beef stew with mashed potatoes in a pastry crust. Generously topped with peas and cheddar, it was flavorful and filling.

Another highlight was the curry chicken. Although it lacked the heat and bold spice you might expect from a curry, the chicken itself was tender and well-cooked, making it enjoyable in its own mild way.

The house-made slaw, served as a side, was the only consistent disappointment. It tasted fresh but fell flat flavor-wise—definitely in need of more zing or acidity.

In the end, Red Lion Grog House delivers classic, satisfying pub food at a reasonable price point. It’s not gourmet, but if you’re in the mood for hearty, comforting fare in a relaxed environment, this place hits the mark.

I love the Fountain Square vibe and the Red Lion Grog House made me love it even more! My husband and I felt like family as soon as we walked in. The bartender was awesome and attentive! It was freezing cold outside so I requested a hot toddy. He made the best hot toddy ever with the perfect balance of whiskey and lemon. The food was delicious, however the wings seemed a little under seasoned, especially the creamy garlic. The burgers are amazing though! Very comfortable atmosphere, vibe and overall nice experience. We’ll be back!☺️

I’ll be honest the food is a hit or miss. Sometimes really good sometimes really greasy or over cooked sometimes but things happen. I got a espresso martini that looked super sad and wasn’t good at all but I will say the other bartender and female server here is what brings me back they are awesome and great at what they do I’ll still keep coming to this establishment because of them.

Hit or miss.
We stopped coming here years ago because a change in chef resulted in menu items changing. We have now come back 3 times in close succession. First 2x just recently were excellent food experiences. This third time was bad. I had the fish and chips all three times. This time the fish was greasy, the fries were cold and a very small portion “bottom of the bag” remnants. I think they were hoping the hot fish would heat up the cold fries. The pickle fries were not even coated and were a small portion (maybe incorrect from what I remembered). Plate was extremely chipped and should not be in use. Loved the patio the other 2 visits.

Okay, we visited this place on a hump day afternoon. Super chill and cozy. Definitely my kind of LBC (Laid Back Cadillac) atmosphere. The service from Jenna was great. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Ordered the famous Fish & Chips and an order of Scotch eggs. Overall pretty good. No complaints.

Overall experience was a positive one. Ordered a Scotch egg and half order of fish and chips. The scotch egg was cold, nothing wrong with that. Dipping sauce for it was nice. Fish and chips pipping hot when it came out. Only downside is there was only one server for the entire place and it was getting busy. Took about 30 minutes just to get the check. Server was indeed great but I felt bad for her since she was constantly running around.

We picked this place at random while wandering Fountain Square and I’m so glad we tried it. This might be the best fish and chips in town. Love the decor and the staff was all great. We will definitely be back.

Got our food to go, bacon burger, French onion soup, and a club sandwich. The soup and sandwich were crazy good, rich flavor and quality ingredients. Burger was alright, the onion ring on the burger was the hero with its breading which leads me to believe it’s their fried food that is tier 1. They did forget our fries and substituted for an additional cole slaw. Overall definitely a cool atmosphere when I picked up so next time will dine in.
