I thought I had posted a review previously, but I can’t find it. This is the BEST Chinese I’ve ever had and I’m very picky! All of their food is FRESH! No frozen junk. I’ve never had a bad meal there and they go above and beyond. I enjoy that their online ordering system allows for additions and special instructions. You can even choose your spice level!
The only issue I had was not being able to pay online as someone else was picking my food up. I called and they simply took my credit card info. So now that I know that’s an option, I’m no longer concerned about not being able to pay online. I just want to say it again, THIS IS THE BEST CHINESE you can get! My ultimate favorite is that they use real Chinese vegetables instead of using fillers like zucchini and squash like other local establishments. The chicken tastes like real chicken, the shrimp is larger size than most places and good quality. I could go on and on about this Jewel of a place.
I just placed an order ten minutes ago, and I can’t wait for my dinner!

We didn’t have high expectations for a Chinese restaurant in small PA town yet this place was outstanding! My partner and I shared an egg roll (beautifully presented, cut on a diagonal) and the chicken w/green bean entree served with white rice and both were delicious! The chicken was thin-sliced and tender and the brown sauce was tasty and the green beans were bountiful. We can’t wait to eat again at the Red Lantern House the next time we’re in Wellsboro!

I really like this place since it became the Red Lantern House. The people that run it are always real kind. The food is fresh and delicious. They always serve hot tea and homemade duck sauce with chips.
I’ve gone many times and always wonderful.
Highly recommend

If I could give this place 4.5 stars, I would—but since Google doesn’t allow half-star ratings, I’m rounding to a solid 4 out of 5. Red Lantern House is a surprising gem tucked away in rural Pennsylvania, offering some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in a long time.
Atmosphere: 4/5
Very clean and well-kept. The dining room is cozy and filled with traditional Chinese décor—red lanterns, bamboo art, and festive wall hangings—giving it an inviting, cultural charm. For a small-town location, the ambiance exceeded expectations.
Service: 4/5
The woman who waited on us was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. She did a great job making us feel welcome. The only downside is that they charge a service fee for credit cards and strongly encourage customers to pay with cash, which, while understandable, feels a little outdated.
Food: 4/5
We started with the fried pork dumplings, and they were exceptional—some of the best we’ve had. The wrappers were thick and chewy (in a good way), and the pork filling was flavorful. The dipping sauce added the perfect zing.
For our meals, we ordered combo platters—you can get one entrée with rice and an egg roll, or pay $4.99 more and choose two entrees. I chose the Kung Pao Chicken and the Chicken with Garlic. Both dishes were tasty and made with high-quality chicken, but the flavors were very similar. I was especially hoping the Chicken with Garlic would have some spice, but it really didn’t—still good, just not what I expected.
The egg rolls, served cut in half, were beautifully presented and crispy, flavorful, and fresh—a standout side item.

✅ Final Thoughts:
Red Lantern House is absolutely worth visiting if you’re in the Wellsburg area. Don’t let its rural location fool you—this is top-tier Chinese food with a clean setting and warm service. A couple of small quirks (like the credit card fee and flavor overlap) kept it from being a full five stars, but it’s still a place I’d gladly return to and recommend.

Visited from out of town and was so glad we stopped here! The best lo mein I’ve had in a while and the coconut chicken was great. Giant egg rolls and deliciously oniony rangoon. The sesame balls had red bean paste in the centers and were a great texture. Everything was molten hot and fresh and the portions generous.

Amazing. Positively divine. A culinary triumph for the senses–every time. Red Lantern House features the very best Chinese food that you’ll find practically anywhere, and it just happens to be nestled in beautiful and picturesque Wellsboro, Pennsylvania–conveniently located in the heart of town with easy access to a plethora of engaging points of interest, including the legendary Pennsylvania Grand Canyon (Pine Creek Gorge). There is always a fantastic dining experience to be had at Red Lantern House. The service is superb, and the food is absolutely delightful. Don’t miss this culinary gem in Wellsboro and treat yourself to an incredible meal–every time, always! The restaurant’s hours are great. They’re open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM to accommodate every schedule. It truly is absolutely fabulous and I always look forward to my next meal here. 在韦尔斯伯勒,打卡红灯笼餐厅。

The staff at the Red Lantern was super efficient and helpful. It is a casual atmosphere but super clean.
We were seated right away and offered a delicious tea! Fried wantons were given with a dipping sauce as we looked over the menu. I ordered General Tso’s chicken combo which came with delicious roast pork fried rice (best since childhood) and the BEST egg roll I’ve had in easily 30 years! I shared some with my husband but only because I’m in love. I wanted it all. The chicken was hot, crispy and flavirful. Not a quick reheat (I normally avoid chicken because reheated meat tastes off to me me). Everything was fresh, piping hot and worth the trip or pick up order. Truly delicious!
We are here to visit family, but I am making sure we get one more stop in or a pick up order. A gem!
PS The staff was efficient, polite and so very nice. They gave us some ideas on places to check out while in town.

I think the reviews are pretty spot on. I live in Pittsburgh which has plenty of Chinese restaurants but lacks quality ones. This place would hold up with the best albeit slightly greasy. Best egg roll I’ve had in a long time and although I wasn’t too familiar with lo mein in the past, I am a fan now. For the price it’s excellent. I also appreciate that they offer “small” and “large” portions. Ramune sodas are a nice addition. The lychee one was amazing; has a nice bitterness to it.

If you’re a fan on Chinese food, definitely come and try this place out!! The egg rolls were fantastic, the soup was so good and the service was very fast. They are certainly fast workers and don’t lollygag around. My main entree was very good, I just didn’t care for the crab, it wasn’t real crab, but the noodles were so good!! I enjoyed my experience!!

I read the reviews and believed the hype. The dumplings ARE that good. Homemade, in-house, we tried the fried pork dumplings and the steamed vegetable dumplings. Aside from all the dumpling talk, we ordered 3 dishes (mine was the Chicken Chow Mei Fun) and we all agreed it was the freshest and some of the best Chinese food we’ve ever tasted (and we’ve been to China!). It also has a lovely dine-in atmosphere with a free pot of Chinese tea. Wellsboro has a gem! We loved it so much, we packed our leftovers in a cooler for our 4 hour drive home!
