We went to Red Herring for my birthday and I absolutely loved it. The environment was cool, dark, and jazzy, such a perfect vibe for any night out. The food, atmosphere, drinks, and service were all amazing. I ordered the mule and my fiancé got the Old Fashioned, and maybe it’s bc we are only 22…those were the best ones we’ve had.
I really loved the menu layout it’s clearly meant for ordering multiple dishes and enjoying a night of eating, drinking, and good conversation. Our server, Haley, was incredible and made us feel so welcome, and she made me feel extra special for my birthday dinner. Some favorites were the sourdough focaccia, the ribeye bites (so freaking good!), and of course my complimentary cheesecake mousse!
I do wish there had been live music that night, but even without it, the experience was awesome. We’ll definitely be back!

Red Herring is perfect for a date night or a girls’ night out. The space has a unique flair, with lighting that sets the mood just right. The food is creative and tasty, and the drinks are just as good—beautifully made and full of flavor. The whole experience feels like you’ve stepped out of Waco for the evening. Such a fun, elevated spot we’ll that we love going back to!

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels elevated but still relaxed — the kind of place you want to linger over cocktails and good conversation. The food was beautifully presented and full of flavor, and the cocktails were creative and perfectly crafted

Last Friday was probably the best dining experience we’ve had in Waco. Our nights always start off joyful in seeing Alaina at the front. She makes the space so inviting. Tate even remembered our drink orders from last time we were in, which was really impressive. Our plates were served within 10 minutes of ordering them, and we were stunned each time.

We stayed for a bit (probably 2.5 hours) and Tate never let our waters go empty once. He seemed to read our minds and genuinely made our dinner such a comfortable and happy experience. Thank you RH team!! <3 Definitely our happy place.

Red Herring was amazing. The service was absolutely amazing! Scotty was the best waiter I think I’ve ever had, not even exaggerating. Very personable, very professional, and just amazing guy to conversate with! He knew the menu, knew each item, and the best approach to enjoying the full experience. The food was superb, highly recommend the sourdough focaccia, potatoes, and hamachi. I was slightly disappointed with the ribeye skewers, had 1 good tender bite, and 5 very tough fat/cartilage that were hard to chew through. It did have a good flavor, just very tough on both skewers. The desert menu was slightly limited, but with a scratch kitchen I don’t blame them. Overall 5 stars for this restaurant, and excited to go back and try other small plates.

Our server really made the evening with his command of the menu and witty and friendly demeanor.the food was delicious. The seafood pasta dish was a bit on the oily side but everything else was delightful.

The delicious food, creative bar menu, rooftop views and super cool vibe and decor make it a must do in Waco. Super close to Baylor University and the perfect place for a date night or special event. The banquet space is stunning!

We have had two awesome experiences here with Scottie. Honestly feel like the food here is some of the best in Waco.
Scottie was so hospitable, and Jacoda was also amazing (bartender). It was my birthday dinner and they made it feel so special for my husband and myself! We ordered so much off the menu. It is a little bit more pricy, but in my opinion, the food is worth it!

We’ve been told people have had mixed reviews, dining here shortly after it opened. But definitely give it a try again if you tried it once before and didn’t have a great experience! Seems like they made some improvements from when they first opened!

Food was amazing and our server, Malaga was attentive and made sure to advise us of foods that would affect nut allergies. 10/10 would recommend!

Stopped by Red Herring on our way home from Fort Worth. Great atmosphere. Very good brunch (steak and potato hash and Dutch baby with ricotta). Love small plates and they did a great job. Amazing coffee. Beautiful art deco interior.

My two stars for service is largely due to where we were seated. We were sat at a small bistro table next to the front door where we had to share a bench seat. Most of the other small bistro tables were at a bench with another chair on the other side, which I would have been happy with. Two people sitting next to each other at a tiny bistro table was odd—an awkward set up for anything other than enjoying a drink. I was disappointed since it wasn’t crowded and there were at least three other open tables much more conducive to dining.

My biggest issue with the table was that the table’s location next to the door was unpleasantly cold and drafty (high today in Waco was in the 40s). The hostess even commented how cold it was at that table when she sat us. Perhaps there were reservations for the empty tables but in the hour we were there only one other couple came in to dine.

Service was okay otherwise—a bit slow and nobody checked to see how our food was, which is a fair thing to expect at a sit down establishment. Overall, it seemed hospitality was a bit lacking and the staff wasn’t particularly concerned with creating a nice dining experience.
