Went for the Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner recently. All the courses were excellent and it was a fun experience for a date night! My husband and I will definitely return!

I attended one of their Olympics pop up dinners. While I didn’t like everything served, the food and service were great. I had an enjoyable experience.

One of the best dining experiences in the Greater Lansing area. Red Haven hosts themed dinners that you can reserve attendance to from their website. I’ve been to multiple now and it’s fun to try new and impressive food.

My favorite dinner was ‘Pie Night’, a four course meal based on pie. The pictures below are from ‘Up North Night’, a celebration of Northern Michigan favorites. Just phenomenal and creative. Do yourself a favor and save up for a fancy but relaxed dinner.

Super fun, multi course, place to dine. Menu varies by day with advanced reservations required. There is one seating per night and everyone is served the same courses at the same times. Amazing food, inspired menus, wonderful staff, and great drinks. Pricy meal, but I would recommend.

This restaurant has been on my bucket list for some time and I finally can check it off! We had a great date night on a Wednesday when they were offering a specialty 4-course mushroom dinner. The atmosphere, service, AND food were top-notch. The dishes were one of a kind, used stellar ingredients, and were presented beautifully. It was a unique yet delicious experience.

I visited Red Haven and unfortunately it was disappointing, especially considering the price. It ended up being over $100 per person.

Many of the dishes were either overly salty or overly sweet. My friend didn’t finish a single dish because the flavors were just too heavy.

The dessert was a fried ice cream, but since we were chatting and eating slowly, it arrived already melted by the time we got to it after finishing the main course. In a “fine dining”setting people usually eat slowly and spend time talking between courses, so it was surprising that a dessert like that was served like that.

Overall the experience didn’t feel worth the price, and I most likely won’t come back.

A unique fine dining spot! This is a limited seating, reservation-required, and multi-course dining experience. Our dinner was themed Cocoa and Candlelight and course included a chocolate component. Every dish was spectacularly delicious. Portions were moderate, but with four courses, it was well paced and well balanced so you left satisfied, but not overly full. I will definitely be visiting again.

Prior to my elevated opinion, let me tell you a little bit about what qualifies me as Lansing’s Premier Food Palette Guide:

I’ve eaten at unlimited, drive-ins, and dives locally and throughout the country. I’ve also eaten at Oteque (**) in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Cocina Hermanos Torres (***) in Barcelona, Spain, and most recently, predicted Mixtli (*) in San Antonio, TX earning its 1st, and San Antonio’s ONLY Michelin Star.
So if there’s one thing I know – it’s good food…

Side Note: (*)(**)(***) <— those are Michelin Stars …start again from the top of you need to.

Now I’ll get to it!
We ate at Red Haven for their ‘Valentine’s Day Tasting Menu’. I’d eaten here before so I knew it was adequate for the occasion. It was a compact menu with wine pairings (honestly I wasn’t feeling any of the pairings, def probably could have done without, but I’ll stick to talking food).
Notably, in the past, I’ve never had a beet dish that was satisfying, but the Beet-Citrus Salad
[beet, blood orange, walnut, feta, micros] was just that! Something about how the beet flavor mixed with the feta and citrus from the blood orange just worked for me. Additionally, the Baked Camebert en Croute
[camebert, pastry, raspberry, pistachio, brioche], and Braised Short Rib [short rib, truffle, brussels, red wine] did not disappoint. However, undoubtedly, the star of the show was the Seared Scallop [scallop, caviar, cream, pasta, fennel]. This plate was absolutely Michelin caliber!!

After this experience, I can confidently say that Red Haven has quickly solidified itself as one of the top 3 fine dining restaurants in the Lansing area (and I don’t know what the other two are).

Rating: 9/10

Did the New Years Eve dinner tonight and we were very disappointed. Was not worth the money. The potato course was awful. The only thing good was the caviar on top. My wife’s fish course was raw and my Kobe beef course was the worst! I was able to eat one small bite as it was all gristle and a long artery in it and my wife’s was very tough. If it truly was Kobe beef it would have been do tender and melted in your mouth. Will not be returning.

Red Haven has a modern feel and good quality cocktails and food. The duck stew was amazing! The tacos were a bit overcooked and extremely dry, but the waitress brought out some sauce that helped with that. Overall, it was a good meal and a nice place.
