Social Profile:

The Roost is home to the fourth Red Apron location – a creative collaboration between Chef Nathan Anda, the Neighborhood Restaurant Group, and a handful of dedicated regional farmers. Red Apron is a locally sourced whole animal butcher and small-batch producer of handcrafted charcuterie and fine provisions. The Roost’s shop features its own unique spin on the concept, with newfangled renditions of classic dishes all complemented by the largest and most comprehensive charcuterie program in the country. At this time, there is no walk-up service for Red Apron. Find an established pick-up area for carryout orders, or order while seated at Shelter!

Trendy, whole-animal butcher offering sandwiches & charcuterie, plus beer & wine.

The only thing bad about Red Apron is that it’s far away from me. You can never go wrong when a butcher shop starts making sandwiches. Soko, anyone?

As expected, their burgers are stupendous. I tried two of their more notable burgers and they were both delicious.

RED APRON ORIGINAL (2 Smash Patt ies, American Cheese, Island Sauce, House Pickles, Red Onion & Shredded Le ttuce) – really quality burger meat, fresh trimmings and their island sauce puts it over the top. A+.

PIMENTO BURGER (2 Smash Pa tties, Bacon, Tomato Jam, and Pimento Cheese) – it’s all about the pimento cheese and tomato jam that’s lathered onto this burger. If you’re a pimento cheese fan, you’ll love this burger.

Service was friendly and kind, which made it even a better experience. They brought a carafe of water, cutlery and a cloth napkin outside where I was sitting. Love the Roost and Red Apron fits right in

The food is heavy, but it often hits the spot at The Roost. My go to is the Pimento Burger, which comes with delicious fries. Even when it’s busy, the wait isn’t very long for your food. Pair it with a sour ale or beer from Shelter. That’s the beauty of The Roost!

So disappointed in Red Apron. I used to look forward to their sandwiches. And especially their fries. Last night I ordered one and there was as much lettuce as there was chicken. And the fries I was looking forward to have been replaced with some gross McDonalds wannabe frozen fries that had almost no rosemary and garlic and were limp and under cooked.

I don’t know if it’s new management, cost cutting, or what, but I really hope y’all switch back to loading up your food (and cooking it) like you used to.

This Red Apron is situated as part of a food hall within the roost. The finishings are upper-scale but comfortable, and the hall is pleasant during off hours. During peak-hours, however, it becomes a little more loud and crowded than I personally prefer.
Red Apron used to offer the best fries in DC, but since they changed their recipe, the fries are the second best (second only to the memory of the old recipe. I also highly recommend the pancake hamburger.

Wanted to get out the house and experience some fresh air and a change of scenery. Decided on the Pimento burger and it did not disappoint. Thoroughly satisfied with the taste, it is hard to find a good burger in DC and better yet write a review but here I am. Every time I put it down to get a relief and catch my breath I found myself picking it back up and savoring the flavor of it again. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

The italian beef…. Chicago would love a word. That was complete garbage. You all should just take this off the menu or rename it. $20 for basically a roast beef sandwich. Gross.

Red Apron the Original Burger is delicious! It reminded me of a fancy burger version of the Big Mac. I will be back again for this burger for sure.

Get the cheeseburger slider with nothing on it but cheese and ketchup. It is what a burger should taste like and be known in the whole entire world (says my 7 year old)

Yummy nachos. But the cheese is grainy and a bit floury.
