I was looking for a private space to host my mother’s birthday dinner, and a family member suggested Rare, The Steakhouse. After sending an inquiry email, I received a response the very next day. Jhon helped coordinate our family dinner and was wonderful to work with. He answered all of my questions and offered thoughtful suggestions for both the food and drink menus.
Our servers were extremely friendly and patient, especially with a party of twenty-two people. Each course was brought out in a timely manner, allowing everyone to truly enjoy every part of the meal. We couldn’t have asked for better service, attention to detail, or food. Everything was absolutely delicious!
My family could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you for making my mother’s birthday so special.

Came here for my husband’s 40th birthday dinner along with my parents and father-in-law. The food and service were outstanding. My husband loved the steak he ordered, and I enjoyed the scallops. The restaurant is loud when crowded, and we had a hard time hearing each other and our server when he came to our table. Other than that, highly recommend this place.

Love the steak, service and atmosphere, no wait. It was after my son’s football game meal and decided to pop it. Couldn’t ask for a better waiter. he was very knowledgeable about the steaks. Food was amazing. We ordered salad, mussels, steak, dessert, and tea. It was a full house. But not to crazy. It was calm and seems like there were a few regulars. I see and hear the waiters having longer conversations at tables. Great to see!!! And the bathrooms were clean and tidy.

Went to Rare on a Thursday night with a good friend and had a great experience. The service was top notch. The atmosphere was great. And the quality of the food was on point. We got the Porterhouse for two, and I was a little skeptical given the price and size of the steak but it exceeded my expectations. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great. This was definitely more of a special occasion dinner so we splurged and were not disappointed. The place is a little pricey but given the quality of the food and service, I think it is justified. I’d definitely go back.

An impromtú pre-birthday date landed us at this gem tonight. No reservations, but they treated us with a warm welcome and accommodated us! Establishment looks small but its ambiance is warm and buzzing at the same time.
We both had different steak cuts that were just a mouth-watering and flavorful Medium treat! Everything was delicious, Drinks were equally well paired and balanced too. Definitely coming back to this gem to try more of that inviting menu!!!

Food, service and ambiance consistently exceeds expectations, whether dining on the weekend or a weeknight. Filet mignon perfectly seared, and their excellent creamed spinach has exceeded what I’ve experienced from NYC steakhouses. The waiters and staff are well-trained, professional and friendly. Will continue to dine at this local winner.

My brother and I went for our annual brother Xmas steak dinner after reading some reviews online. This is a very good place where one can have an excellent meal for a decent price.
Customer service was excellent from the moment we walked in, everyone on staff greeted us at least once. Our server was wonderfully considerate and offered some recommendations from the menu and the daily specials menu after chatting with us briefly.
Little things keep this from being a 5 star review. The french onion soup was delicious, not overly salty as I’m used to in some steak houses, but I wish the cheese on top was slightly charred or even toasted for the tasty “crispy bits” rather than just melted… the “side” garnish of haricot vert and carrots which came with our wonderfully tender and perfectly executed porterhouse were more of an afterthought- they were perfectly cooked and I wish there were more as the pricey porterhouse came with nothing else but sauces (some NYC steakhouses will throw in a side for the cost of the steak). Creamed spinach was, at best what I woud call “eh.”
On the other hand, the crayfish mac and cheese was outstanding and I with I had one or two more bites when it was gone. And as I mentioned earlier, the Porterhouse was just done right: the strip side had the right amount of bite without being chewy, and the filet side was so tender one could be convinced it would melt in your mouth (didn’t confirm that). Loaded baked potato is one of those dishes no one really mentions unless it perfectly complements and completes the meal, and this one did, as simple as it was.
For a local neighborhood steakhouse I have very positive memories of last night. Would 10/10 go again with some friends or family and try some of the other menu offerings.

Mediocre at best. The steaks which were listed as prime did not seem so. We had a T Bone and a NY strip. Very tough to cut and chewy. Not a very warm welcome by staff or server. Thought this was supposed to be one of the best in NJ. Not worth the trip. Could have gone local, paid less, and got better steak and service. Very disappointing.

Our family picked this place to celebrate my husband’s birthday. It was truly a wonderful experience. Only 2 of our 7 had been here before and highly recommended it to the rest. So glad they did. We probably drove the wait staff crazy with questions, but they were awesome about it. The food is amazing and mouthwatering. Everything we had was cooked perfectly (except the “raw” oysters, but they were super as well according to my husband and sons). We had the calamari and shrimp and clams casino appetizers as well. Dinner was steaks of different cuts and doneness, veal, scallops, and sides of Mac and cheese, Parmesan truffle fries and asparagus. The wine selection is great too. There is not a single item we had that we would not recommend. While some may feel the pricing is a bit high, the saying is “you get what you pay for” and in this case, it was worth it.
