The tea leaf salad needed more of the fermented tea leaf, the mixing process didn’t feel very special.
We liked the lamb curry and coconut rice, but the curry didn’t feel very emulsified, it didn’t have the right consistency.
The garlic noodles also were a letdown, the chicken chewy and just lackluster flavors. I expected it to be more oily and way more garlicky, instead it was dry.
The house made chili sauce was very spicy, so you’ve been warned.
The paratha was excellent and rich and savory with the coconut chicken, probably my favorite dish of them all.
I thought the prices were very reasonable.
I have been coming here for over ten years, and somewhere along the way I fell in love with Burmese food through this kitchen. What I love most is how the flavors quietly carry influences from so many regions. You can taste hints of Chinese techniques, Indian spices, and Thai-style brightness, all woven together into something that feels completely its own. It is not fusion for the sake of it. It is Burmese cuisine standing confidently on its own.
I always end up getting a little tour of flavors when I eat here. The tea leaf salad is still a favorite. Bright, savory, layered, and somehow comforting every time. The basil chili beef and the mint jalapeño chicken never disappoint either. Familiar, bold, and deeply satisfying without being heavy.
But what really makes Rangoon Ruby special for me goes beyond the food.
We were taking our daughter here from the time she was born. As she grew, it became her favorite place to eat. To this day, she chooses to celebrate her birthday here every single year. Her go to dishes are the veggie kebab, the tea leaf salad, and the pea leaves. One of the things I love most is how many thoughtful and delicious vegetarian options there are, which makes it a place everyone can enjoy.
Over time, it stopped feeling like just a restaurant and started feeling like family.
From the warmth of the service to the consistency of the food, Rangoon Ruby has been a constant. Friendly, welcoming, and full of heart.
Grateful for the meals, the memories, and the many more still to come. ❤️
We ordered Fiery tofu and garlic noodles for the main course. The noodles were a little bland for my taste but were perfect aldante. It came with a sweet spicy sauce which went well with it. The fiery tofu was to die for. It had a distinct basil taste which added to its overall flavor.
For the dessert we had the Sooji with mango icecream. I have had sooji dessert all my life but never with a combination of a icecream..the hot sooji and cold icecream combination was a flavor explosion .
Would definitely recommend this place.
best Burmese food in Palo Alto
They gave us a complimentary bowl of rice.
The tea leaf salad, however, was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it.
Good gluten free options as well!
