Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere. What else could you ask for? The chopped BBQ plate was plentiful and delicious. It included ample meat, slaw (your choice of red or white), crinkle fries, baked beans, and three hush puppies. This was my first visit but there are plenty regulars judging from the greetings I overheard. Will definitely return when back in town.

Absolutely awesome place!!! Easily 10 stars if I could. Food was yummy and portions were more than adequate. The barbecue pork was beyond delicious. We tried the onion rings, fried okra , baked beans, coleslaw and hush puppies and everything was scrumptious. The banana pudding was out of this world. The service was great, she was friendly, helpful and efficient. I highly recommend a visit. Also you must have the sweet tea.

Randy’s has some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had the pleasure to eat. Their in store made vinegar based sauce is excellent. Today I tried the BBQ salad with the crunchy shell bowl. It was wonderful! Oh, and they have homemade potato chips!

We got carry out from here yesterday while passing through town. I called for menu information and the person I spoke to was super helpful. I ordered two brisket plates with sides and hush puppies. Everything was great! The potatoes salad and little side rolls were really good. Hush puppies too! The only small thing the vinegar based coleslaw was really heavy on the vinegar and not my favorite. But the mayo based coleslaw was good.
We will come back on our next trip through Statesville!

My only complaint, is there are discrepancies when we get bbq sandwiches. Sometimes the ratio of slaw and pork is perfect. Other times the slaw is lacking and it changes the experience of how amazing the bbq is. Still huge fans, but please fix this pic of my lack of slaw complaint lol

Melinda’s provided efficient, friendly and more importantly, attentive service. My BBQ sandwich was outstanding, enjoyed the hushpuppies and the sweet tea was superb. Definitely recommend this diner and would return whenever in the area. The diner does not accept plastic, but there is an ATM onsite.

Stopped in while passing through Statesville and was initially drawn in by the charming atmosphere and promise of classic Southern BBQ. The décor was warm and inviting, and the sweet tea was absolutely on point—perfectly sweet and refreshing.

Unfortunately, that’s where most of the positives ended for me. I ordered a BLT, expecting something hearty and flavorful, but it was incredibly mediocre—nothing special, nothing memorable. For a BBQ joint, I was hoping for something that really stood out, but this just wasn’t it.

Beyond the food, I noticed a few things that really need improvement. First, the bathroom situation: only an air dryer, which we all know harbors bacteria, and no sanitary way to exit the restroom without touching the door handle. In today’s world, that’s a simple but important fix—paper towels and a trash can by the door would go a long way.

The biggest concern, however, is the smoker actively being used on the curb outside the entrance. While it adds to the ambiance, it’s also a major safety hazard. I nearly brushed against it just getting out of the car, and I can only imagine how easy it would be for a child to get burned. Honestly, I thought it was just a decorative piece at first since there were others outside, but then I realized it was fully in use. This is an accident (and a lawsuit) waiting to happen—please, for the sake of safety, find a better, more protected setup.

Overall, it’s a mixed bag. Great atmosphere and sweet tea, but the food was nothing to write home about, the bathroom setup needs work, and the smoker placement is a serious issue. I’d love to see some improvements because there’s definitely potential here, but for now, I can’t say I’d go out of my way to stop again.

Excellent service. BBQ plate had very generous portions. The white slaw was really good. It reminded me of my grandma’s. What’s not to love about that? The pulled pork was tender and flavorful. The chicken was a little dry. Hubby had the BBQ sandwich and he liked it. Iced tea was good too. The special was a pot pie. Think I need to go back to try that.
