Summary: average environment, slightly less than average prices, slightly better than average food, excellent service.
Atmosphere is typical of Mexican places in the area. Decorative brick arches, plaster, tile, pictures of horses, and the obligatory dark wood booths. Not dim, though.
Chips were served warm, as they should be.
Food is kinda “mid” as my kids would say. I found the house salsa ok, my wife really liked it. The tomatillo salsa, I thought, was the better of the two, with a better flavor and a tad more bite. The white sauce (a local thing, unique to each restaurant) was pretty good, I’m not normally a big fan.
I had the chori pollo, the same dish I usually have when trying a new restaurant. The chicken was cooked pretty well, and reasonably thick. Precut, not a big flat slab, which I’ve seen before. Not a fan of generic nacho cheese, but it worked. Chorizo was good.
Rice? Kinda bland. Beans actually pretty good for beans. It came with flour tortillas, of course. Plates were hot, as they should be.
The service was excellent! Server came by enough to be helpful, but not so much as to be intrusive. Friendly, engaging, and responsive. We requested a small bowl of fresh jalepenos and another of cilantro, both came quickly and in good quantity.
A good place slightly off the beaten path to visit when shopping in Greenbrier to staying at one of the local hotels.

Best Mexican restaurant in the region! It’s always a joy going to Rancho Grande on Eden Blvd in Chesapeake VA. The food is great, service is quick, & the atmosphere is very comfortable. The service is second to none. We’re always treated like family! Quick & friendly service in a clean & safe family restaurant is what you can expect. From the moment you step inside to the time you leave happy you’ll see plenty of smiles. It’s the best value in town! You won’t be disappointed!

I went here the other day with my mom sister and niece. Everything was perfect. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I got the a la carte chicken quesadilla and I wanted the little chicken instead of the shredded chicken and it was only $1 more. It was plenty of food for a great price. The atmosphere was very inviting. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back if I am out near the Greenbrier way. We all loved it and would recommend this restaurant. Thank you for giving us a great experience.

My Wife and I Come Here Often, but Hadn’t Been In A While. It Was Our Date Night. It Wasn’t Very Busy or Crowded. The Server Was Attentive and Friendly. The Drinks Were Good and The Food Was Delicious. AS USUAL! Consistency Is What Brings Us Back!

Rancho Grande has been a staple in our “where do you wanna eat” rotation. The prices are more than fair, the food comes fast & hot and the staff are hardworking and attentive.
I typically order the table side guacamole for an appetizer and flautas and sides of rice and beans for my entree. Both are excellent. My husband loves the chile verde and will order that 95% of the time. My toddler loves the fresh chips they serve you when seated as well as the rice and beans.

This place was so awesome and delicious on a whole other level. Down to the chips and salsa, to the drinks, even the food. I would recommend anyone to enjoy this beautiful place. The staff and service is very nice, treat you just like family.
To the staff of Rancho Grande it has been great and hope to stop in next time.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Food is good, staff is friendly and the restaurant always looks nice. The guacamole is made fresh and right in front of you. The portions are sized big for the price you pay which is always good. They have messed up my taco a few times but also fix it without a hassle. Definitely recommend.

I’ve been a long-time fan of the tortilla soup—it’s my absolute favorite, and I often drive from Moyock to Chesapeake just to enjoy it. However, during my most recent visit, I was quite shocked and disappointed to find the soup unusually oily, which has never been the case in my prior experiences.
When I called to share my concern, I was informed that the soup is “normally cooked in a lot of grease.” This response surprised me because the quality and flavor I’ve come to expect have never reflected this.
I hope this is a one-time issue, as I truly enjoy the soup and would like to continue recommending it to others. Please let me know if this matter can be addressed.

Upon returning to order the tortilla soup, I was delighted to have the quality tortilla soup I’ve always enjoyed. Despite a previous unsatisfactory experience, I found the soup to be enjoyable. I would highly recommend it and rate it five stars.
