I flew into MSP and immediately my girlfriend told me we were eating at this joint, no options allowed! And she was right!

It was pretty dead the night we went, so we got a table quickly, and were served quickly as well. We started off with the absolutely massive egg rolls that were a hit. When they arrived, I was shocked at how big and plump they were!

After this, we ordered, I got dish with beef, peanuts, sauce, peppers and onions, and my partner got fried shrimp with a cream sauce and walnuts. Both were very tasty and very large portions, but I was shocked to learn that rice needed to be ordered separately? That did not make sense to me, but to each their own, and the food was very tasty, so that makes little difference to me. It was a pricey meal, but it was a good one for sure.

I flew into MSP, and after my Girlfriend picked me up, she took us immediately to Rainbow Chinese. I have never been to the state of Minnesota, much less had midwestern Chinese food, and let me tell you, I was delighted.

The egg rolls were simply massive, and as big as they were, they were also full of flavor —nothing overpowering; everything in the roll worked well together. My partner got a fried shrimp dish with walnuts that was very good, and I got Szechuan beef, which was also delicious. She also got a specialty alcoholic drink, I think it was a lavender lemonade? I cannot remember exactly, but it was very tasty.

The only real criticism I have is that they did not give you rice with your entrée, which seems strange given that the price of the proteins and vegetables could have included rice, as I paid $23 for beef, onions, peppers, snow peas, and a few carrots. This was only minorly irritating, and I still enjoyed my meal and I will be back!

Rainbow is one of my favorite spots to get Chinese food in the cities. The crispy tiger beef and the dry sautéed green beans are my go-to. However, the prices are steep and portion sizes do not match. We got two vegetable sides and two entrees and it was $90. Each entree has enough food for about one person and nothing more. In addition, you have to pay for white rice separately, which I have never encountered anywhere else.

We visited on Friday and the restaurant was not busy. The eggrolls were delicious as always. I ordered beef chow fun and did not like it. The noodles were way overcooked, so they were soft and mushy. My bf got the crispy chicken and it was good flavor.

The server was mopey and slow. She’s more suited for a back of house role. We could hear the two tables next to us complain too.

The food is consistently excellent at Rainbow – subtle, authentic, but still acceptable to my Minnesotan BF 🙂 We’ve had good service in the past but not so recently. The white waitress who ignored us until we flagged her down, while regularly asking the white couple next to us if they wanted anything more, could do a lot better. Meanwhile, the person up front who pitched in to clear tables after checking people in for their reservations has our thanks!

First time eating here. My wife and I were happy we chose this place out of a whim. The atmosphere is really chill and laid back. The service was friendly and quick. I’m almost certain that we had received our food maybe 10 mins after ordering. The Szechuan Wontons and Cream Cheese Wontons were both very delicious. Our entrees were fantastic! We’re definitely coming back when we make our way up to Minneapolis.

Rainbow Chinese was excellent as always! The Crispy Tiger (mock duck) was so delectable I almost got a second order to take home! I appreciate how clearly marked their menu is for Gluten free options. My servers were very kind, knowledgeable, and attentive.
