Our waiter, Ross, was outstanding every time we visited. He took the time to explain the menu and was incredibly friendly and engaging. We also had the pleasure of briefly meeting the owner, who was so welcoming and kind, even when we stopped by during closed hours.
We ordered the chicken with sweet potatoes cooked in coconut oil — absolutely incredible! The beef stew was also phenomenal. Every dish we tried was delicious.
This place is truly a gem.
So I’ve picked up door dash from this place ALOT- it always seems to have a great atmosphere and I hear nothing but great things about the food. Today I decided to try it.
I warned my guest that we may be the only ones that look like us in there- and when we walked in she understood exactly what I meant. They told us to sit wherever and someone will be with us shortly. Less than a minute after we sat down someone came- told us they were not our waiter- took our drink order and left. She bought the drinks out while we continued to review the menu. My guest had to walk outside so she told me what she wanted and went to her vehicle. 5 minutes after she came back- our waiter came to us. I was annoyed at this point because I waited over 10 minutes (this was after I had started timing her) to put in our order.
She told me she was waiting for my guest to come back- which to me didn’t make sense bc during that time you could’ve checked in or something. We placed our order but I was still a bit annoyed so I asked to speak to a manager. He explained the wait- and helped me look at the situation a bit differently. He also must’ve talked to our waiter because the interaction after was a bit different- for the better.
The food was very good- we had the pork chop (6/10) and catfish (7/10) – fries (4/10)- onion rings (5/10) – red beans and rice (8/10).
I see now why a certain demographic orders to- go, and I would definitely go back and do the same.
This eatery is still consistent! I absolutely love their shrimp and okra gumbo!!! Rachel’s son is AWESOME!!! This is one of my favorite AUTHENTIC CAJUN/CREOLE SPOTS TO DINE AT!
6/21/21 I came for the first time around 5:20 and had the best service and best food!
Ross was our waiter according to the name ticket at our table; however, the other waiters and waitresses would pick-up the slack for their counterparts to make sure the customers were good at all times (with drinks/ordering of more food, etc…): this was neat and a Very Good move by management! 5/5 Stars for that great hospitality strategy among the staff members.
The food was the best, ever, too. Homemade quality!
The restaurant has a real chill ambiance about it, too.
I ordered:
1. A cup of shrimp and okra gumbo: came out warm, and it was certainly VERY good!
2. The Seafood jambalaya tates exactly how I do mine!!!! Now I know where to get the foods I enjoy when I don’t feel like cooking! Lol
3. The potato salad was a basic salad like what maw-maw would make: straight up just the potatoes and eggs with mayo/mustard mix. Not too much mustard, though. More simple and bland–just like maw-maw would make it because she didn’t want it over-powering the other great food she made.
4. The side order of okra is a 10/10!!!!! Who is cooking this food??????!!!!! They are the best!!!!!
5. Grilled bell peppers with crab stuffing and some tartar sauce made it just right!
6. Ordered 3 desserts: German Chocolate cake, carrot cake, and pineapple upside down cake: they came out bundt style. The pineapple upside down bunt dessert was the best out of the 2.
I can’t believe this place has been in Lafayette this long and I never knew about it. This place doesn’t even show up on Google for places opened to dine at.
Anyway, IF YOU WANT AUTHENTIC FOOD THAT MAW-MAW WOULD COOK IN HER KITCHEN, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!!!
