Reviews
First, R Place gives the impression that they have just opened. This not the case. There are bare walls and an unfinished feel to R Place. There is no soda fountain or coffee maker, everything is served in bottles – even the water. While we were there, the severs went to the store down street the several times to purchase 6 packs of drinks and items for the kitchen.
Time is a big factor with my experience. We came into the restaurant a few minutes before noon. It was almost ten minutes before anyone came to our table. My partner ordered coffee and I tried to order juice but was told they didn’t have the juice listed. It took another ten minutes to get our drinks, the coffee made from a Keurig and a bottle of soda from the cooler. When our drinks were delivered the server left without asking what we wanted to eat. I started to watch the time knowing it was going to be an issue.
The table beside us got their food, but only two out of the three plates. It was at least ten minutes later when the last plate arrived with apologies from their server.
Our server then took our order. She also took the order of the table behind us, we estimated they arrived 15 minutes or so before us. Then she took the order of a couple who sat about 20 minutes after we arrived, the same time we got our drinks. I ordered a BLT and added fries as the sandwiches don’t come with any sides included. My partner ordered the stuffed French toast. This was at 12:17, and the other two tables ordered within minutes of that. At 12:43, the table behind us got two of their plates. Another plate at 12:46. I got my BLT at 12:47. The last plate of the table behind us arrived at 12:50. My partner’s French toast arrived at 12:52. The newer table got both their plates at 12:55, with the other server offering them apologies for the wait. We were not offered an apology for our wait. My BLT was missing tomatoes, but I didn’t mention it in case it would take another 30 minutes to correct. The food for all three tables came out within about ten minutes of each other, why were the plates for each table not served at the same time? There was a definite break down of general service that was very frustrating. Several times we thought of walking out, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt because it appeared they were a new establishment. Had I not had almost thirty minutes to peruse their other reviews, I would’ve kept that impression. Other reviews mention the “just-open” feel of the restaurant and the same issues we experienced but they were from 2 years ago. This is just how the place operates, which causes the customers to forgive their mistakes because the impression is that they are new.
We decided even though the food was okay the wait was not. By the time we got our bill it was 1:10. It was 1:18 when we left. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to have a casual lunch of a sandwich and breakfast item.
The place was about half full when we arrived. The place is very clean, tables and chairs all match and are nice. I would suggest some pictures or art on the walls. They look a little bare.
The young lady waiting on us checked on us often and refilled our drinks promptly. Anything we asked for we received promptly. The bill was reasonable, $20 for both of us including drinks.
The iced tea was very good. The burger was good. My eggs were good. The coffee was quite good.
Now for a few things they need to improve on. They are a new business and I’m sure still ironing out the kinks. I hope they consider these suggestions.
My wife’s fries were not quite done. Still a bit crunchy. My “home fries” were actually french fries that were cut up smaller. I would suggest frying the fries a bit longer and cutting home fries differently like slices or cubes.
I ordered sunny side up eggs. They came over easy. They were very good but not what I had ordered. I didn’t send them back as my wife had already gotten her food.
My sausage kinks were not cooked all the way. They weren’t raw, but needed to be on the grill a little longer.
There were no napkins, salt and pepper or ketchup on the table. Maybe they are discouraging theft. I don’t know. These should be on the table. Also, bring napkins with the meal. My wife had to ask twice for a napkin.
The ketchup and ranch dressing were not very good. I would suggest Heinz ketchup and a name brand ranch. Don’t go cheap on the condiments as it can ruin good food.
My wife’s burger showed up first and was not correct. She ordered just cheese and ketchup and it came with mayo, tomato and lettuce. She sent it back. It was 10 minutes before they returned with it corrected. Another 5 minutes, my food arrived. I would suggest being careful about writing down the order correctly and bringing all the food to the table at the same time. It’s a bit annoying getting food brought at different times and eating while the other person doesn’t have their food.
This is a new place it was refreshing to see young folks working there learning job skills. I hope they continue to improve and make a go of it. Just need a bit more attention to detail and to use quality condiments.
I loved “Stacy’s” can do attitude! She was very attentive and friendly.
Still a few growing pains, but as I understand it they have only been open a few days. I will be stopping again!
