Upscale Italian restaurant with a nice atmosphere & excellent, fresh entrees. Reservations are recommended. The bar area is a great place to start before dinner. Pictured is the vegetable linguine with marinara sauce. Looking forward to going back for it again!

This restaurant is fantastic. The ambiance and food are exceptional. I remember coming here when I was in high school and it’s as good, if not better.

Great vibe, nice old-school intimate atmosphere. Went on NYE, and I was lucky to get a last-minute reservation. People were very friendly even though they were super busy. Food came out promptly. My only real issue is the value. They’re set up and priced like a top shelf venue, but the quality just doesn’t keep up. We had 3 entrees, one app, one dessert, 6 cocktails: $220 plus tip. For that kind of money I expected better quality than we got. I hope the quality is better when they’re not as busy, but I probably won’t be back to find out for myself.

Great location, Nicee food. But this place itself is much better for a casual dinner or a serious date.. It was really pleasant, with dim lights & low music. Totally loved it.

I had been wanting to check this out for a very long time and we finally popped in for drinks and an appetizer and I’m so glad we did! It was such a cool and interesting place and our service was wonderful. We did not have a reservation, but, had planned to just sit in the bar area. We will definitely go for dinner soon at the adjoining restaurant.

Visit with a friend. Beautiful atmosphere but the service was terrible. There was only two couples in the building but sat me all the way in the back by the kitchen. ( ♀️No big deal). They turned on everybody little lamps but ours again ( ♀️ no big deal). I asked if they could make virgin drinks the server and manager seem unhappy about my request but I thought maybe I’m reading into things. I was told what I order was really rich but they brought me bland dry bread. When my food was served I shared with the waiter I didn’t like what was served. She was appalled, walked away, and told the kitchen give table 46 their check and get them out of here. The original waiter brought the check still charging me for food they snatched (rudely) away from us. I had asked for a manager and my friend asked was the manager the one that just said “give table 46 their check and get them out of here”. She said “yes” and went in the kitchen and repeated what she asked her. One of the males in the kitchen said “if they want to talk to the manager I’ll go out there”, as if she was making some kind of issue. When we left the manager tried to bump into my friend purposely. She stepped out of her way. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone but honestly I wouldn’t recommend it to black people because everyone else that came in after us was treated awesome.

I was very pleased with my experience at RG Books Lounge.
I wanted to take my girlfriend out for a nice little dinner and before deciding on RG Books I had emailed them to confirm if there were any dishes which could be made without the use of animal products and also, to see if there were gluten free options. I received a response indicating this would not be a problem.
After getting to the venue and being seated our waitress kindly walked us through options on the menu that could fit our preferences. She also graciously checked with the chef to make doubly sure on a couple of items.
I had the Mediterranean pasta and my girlfriend ordered the pesto pasta, both were tasty.
The only reason I give less than a perfect score is that, I think I find personally, after having some east asian cuisine, I find more traditional Italian dishes to be a little bland, comparatively.
That being said, RG Books *shines* in terms of professionalism and atmosphere and they are certainly no slouches when it comes to flavor.
By being able to deliver on requirements of vegan and gluten free options, they are demonstrating a level of culinary exceptionalism in the Cedar Rapids area. I only wish they had even more options free of animal products.

Went in with a small group of friends. When we asked to split the bill the bar tender calculated a 20% tip on everyone’s bill and hand wrote in the tip about. There wasn’t a sign posted about added gratuity for parties over a certain size. When the bar tender was asked about these things she got rude. I have no problem tipping for good service but just adding it in because you feel like it is not ok.

I recommend everyone come here at some point! A very deceiving place. It is in an older strip mall. You walk in and WOW!! So cool! I dont even know that a review woul do it justice!
