Hidden Gem Alert! The “R Bar” is a Must-Visit in Santa Maria!
Let me tell you, my recent experience at the “R Bar” was an absolute delight! From the moment I walked in, I was enveloped in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The live music was a fantastic touch, and the accordion player added such a unique and joyful energy to the evening. It wasn’t just background noise; it truly enhanced the entire dining experience.
And the food and drinks? Absolutely top-notch! Everything we ordered was delicious and expertly prepared. You can tell they take pride in the quality of their offerings. What truly stood out, though, was the friendly vibe. The other customers were so open and kind, adding to the overall sense of community.

Fabulous dinner at R bar tonight. I did not want the clam chowder that was being served and the chefs, so very kindly, prepped me a chicken broccoli chowder that was fabulous!!! I have never had such wonderful accommodations. I also ordered the steak bites and fries that were amazing. Cooked to perfection medium rare, very tender! Thank you!

The service is very, very slow, stand around 10 minutes waiting to order at the bar. The outside patio is not comfortable at all, the seats are few and hard. A couple of tables tossed out there. Nowhere to put your plate. Food was pretty good. But overall it’s not a comfortable place to go for food. P.S. I also ordered a watermelon margarita and it tasted like sugar syrup so I couldn’t finish it. Tasted no tequila. I’d rather go to a real steak house with proper seating. About the same price.

We have been to Rbar three times now the first two experiences were great. Service was excellent and the food was good. I had the sirloin, not tender at all and yes sometimes sirloins can be that way. My two partners had the filets and raved. We all had a smoked cocktail however when served they used a drink coaster to retain smoke which is very odd as it’s on the rim of the glass you are going to drink from (not sanitary). Third visit a different bartender and we arrived around 8, she did not greet us or even acknowledge however took time to look at her phone twice. A server finally came and took drink orders, 15 min later our smoked coctails arrived w the same used coasters on top. He then retuned 5 min later and said they had issues w the smoker and wanted to add smoke again which was fine. They changed menu and took the filets off and left the sirloin. My partner ordered it and stated good flavor but very tough to chew. Other person ordered salmon and stated it was overcooked, forgot to put the glaze on it and potatoes were bland. I ordered the chicken sandwich and onion rings which were excellent. Overall the experience was very off and not the same as the previous two times. I highly doubt we will try again.

The beer and low key atmosphere is top notch. However, I ordered the, “Best Fried Chicken Sandwich” and got a charcoal briquette on a bun. I asked for a redo and got a slightly less charred briquette without the normal toppings. So, yeah, don’t do that. Do their tri tip sammich or the smash burger instead.

My wife and have been here a few times. First time was going to get dinner and we ended up getting fries that were amazing. So we didnt get the rib eye that we wanted. This is not a bad thing. The truffles fries are off the chain. 2nd time we went for drinks. Third time went in just for rib eye, we settle for rib eye steak bites. Steak bites are good but needed some more flavor. I will definitely be back to get the full plate. Also they have a fillet that I really want to try. Fillet is my favorite cut and I will be reviewing that soon. People are great and staff is so good. This is a place where locals know. This is inside Kay’s kitchen, the back room. If you from out of town go check it out. Diamond in the rough.
Went back to have the fillet and WOW, what a good cook on this. This was the way my wife likes to the T. Some crust and the outside and soft in the middle.

R Bar is a great addition to the dinner options in Orcutt! Fun atmosphere, great food and service and reasonable prices. Seeing Kay’s Kitchen transformed into a dinner house right on Clark Ave has been a long time coming. Quickly becoming a favorite!

It smells rotten in the front room. Steak and fries were WAYYY too salty. While the back room was interesting, it paled in relief to the other institutions in the area.
