Great Food & Value, Vegan Focus, but Note the Atmosphere & Service
Quesadilla La Reina del Sur is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic, vegetable-focused Mexican cuisine, particularly those looking for expansive vegan and vegetarian options.
The food itself is great, boasting a wide variety of excellent fillings like Huitlacoche, Flor de Calabaza, and Nopales. Their large menu, dedicated entirely to plant-based items, is a huge plus, offering many choices beyond the typical vegetable fajitas, including numerous delicious mock-meat alternatives (for those who enjoy them). Crucially, the food is rightly priced and not expensive, offering fantastic value for the large portion sizes and quality plant-based ingredients.
However, a couple of points on the experience are worth noting:
• Spice Request Disappointment: When I asked the server to make my meal spicy by cooking it with chili in the ingredients, they politely suggested I use the salsa on the table instead. While the salsa is indeed excellent and provides heat, there is a clear difference in the depth of flavor when spices are cooked into the dish, rather than being added as a topping. It would be great if the kitchen could accommodate requests to build the heat into the meal itself.
• Dining in Winter: If you visit during the colder months, be prepared to dine in your jacket. The dining area can be quite chilly, which definitely impacts the comfort level of the meal.
• Soda Service: The can of soda was opened before it was brought to the table. For future service, it would be preferable for staff to ask the customer if they would like the soda opened at the table.
In summary: Come for the fantastic, flavorful, well-priced, and expansive menu of pure vegetable and vegan Mexican food. Just be ready to apply the spice yourself and keep your coat handy in the winter!

Really nice vegetarian Mexican restaurant but they also have two different types of vegan cheeses. Really big selection of soy based proteins to choose from and also has nopales and huitlacoche which are always delicious. Good size portions too. One of my favorite stops in the Logan Square area

First timer here, and now an aspiring regular. To quote my partner “this was the best burrito I’ve ever had in my life!”

We got the Garibaldi (pictured) , Pastor De Soya (our favorite), and a Tamale. All of which where amazing.

It’s hard to find a good vegan burrito that’s the size if your head. Thank you for an amazing dinner 🙂

The food was fantastic, a little expensive, but still tasted great! The portions are BIG, if you order a super burrito for $4 more. Cheese is an additional $4 more, but not worth it as it can’t be tasted in the burrito. It taste wonderful without it. The service was great, the server was friendly and helpful. It was a little hot in the restaurant. They had the front side open wich allowed for a great breeze to come in.

Quesadilla Reina del Sur is a wholesome establishment. There are several vegan options to choose from, and the vegan potato cheese is recommended. The ingredients appeared fresh and of good quality; they can overcook some dishes on occasion, but the food is satisfactory overall. A clean and comfortable establishment and the staff are very friendly and professional.

It would’ve been a 5 start but they are not honest about the pricing. Juice menu clearly said 7.74 for a juice, but I was charged 9.50, after I brought it up they said ‘we will give you the menu price’ and changed it to 8.50 lol

The vegan chicharron quesadilla was great. The first bite, I had to second guess myself if this was actually pork, because it was marinated perfectly to the taste of pork. The cheese, I wish it had thicker consistency, but great taste. The customer service was great (Deisy) was welcoming and helpful and explaining the items. They also gave me a vegan horchata that was refreshing just nailed it on the taste. Vegan steak tacos needs more seasoning for my taste buds. Thanks

Easily some of the best vegetarian Mexican food I’ve had at any restaurant. I came in and had the lunch combo that offered two Enchiladas with rice and beans. The pricing was very affordable especially for vegetarian restaurants. This would be my first recommendation if asked about a choice for Mexican vegetarian food.
