I’ve been to just about every Que Onda location around Charlotte, but finally remembered to take photos at the Matthews spot tonight. As a California-born taco lover, I’m almost embarrassed to admit how incredible the tacos are here… because I’ve eaten at just about every hole-in-the-wall from Tijuana and all up and down the East Coast. I know good tacos, and this place absolutely deserves its flowers.
Every single taco was phenomenal, but the steak is out of this world. The flavors are bold, the textures are on point, and the tortillas hold everything together without falling apart, which is a bigger deal than people realize. If you appreciate real tacos and not just “taco-adjacent” food, Que Onda is well worth checking out.

Cameron and the hostess were so friendly and really made us feel welcome. The service was as good as the food! We sat outside and it had a great summer vacation vibe. Inside has a fun vibe and decor as well. The food is always authentic, fresh and top quality. The steak and shrimp fajitas were amazing! We also had chicken and beef empanadas. I get them every time! Don’t skip the margaritas! I had a strawberry and my friend had mango. We also got the queso, guacamole, and salsa trio with chips. The guacamole was outstanding. Que Onda is my favorite neighborhood restaurant in Matthews. I always suggest it when going out with friends and family.

Great food and friendly service. They run some kind of special every day, and we love that kids eat free on Sundays. Their salsa always tastes super fresh, and their queso is delicious as well. If I’m really hungry I’ll typically get the skillet nachos with carnitas. The portion is massive and they’re very reasonably priced. The Coca Cola carnitas tacos are also excellent.

My family ate here last night with friends and we all really enjoyed our meals and the service! We started off with the trio dips which were fire! I especially loved the Guac and loved that the queso was a little thicker than queso at most places. The food (carne asada tacos and fajita trio) were delish and our server, Rosalina, and the manager, Jah, were attentive to our needs and provided fast and friendly service! I think it’s safe to say Que Onda will be our New Mexican restaurant moving forward!! Highly recommend!!

Que Onda in Matthews is outstanding! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Jah, the GM, who clearly cares about both her team and guests. She checked in on our table to make sure everything was perfect, and it really made us feel valued.
Our server, Roselia, was absolutely wonderful—attentive, kind, and quick with great recommendations. She made the whole experience feel relaxed and fun, and she never let our drinks run low.
