This is a little restaurant you’d barely notice when you drive past off the beaten track but it’s excellent. A wide menu of typical dishes plus many you won’t normally find on the high street. A range of spice levels plus plenty of non-meat options. We had the mixed starter of samosas, kabab, tikka chicken and onion bhaji. Then 3 curries – a Korma, chicken xacuti and Punjabi kadai gosht plus a daal. Also a butter naan and cheese naan. Apart from the fact it was far too much food (so we took a lot home!) it was absolutely delicious. We had heard great things about it and were not disappointed. Our new favourite!

Very no-frills family-run restaurant, server actually quite helpful guiding me through menu and got my spice level right. Fish pakora was nicely fried and well-spiced; good start. Lamb dish had good flavours and spices but lamb could have been more tender. Spinach & paneer was really to my taste and the veggie-stuffed naan hit the starch spot. Chatted to lovely Chef and appreciated the attention in a very quiet dining room with very little atmosphere until I asked for music. Get the impression it’s mainly takeaway/delivery. Still one of the best Indian meals I’ve had in Newbury so far by a long shot.

This is my first time reviewing Punjabi Virsa however I have visited this restaurant twice. The first time I visited was to pick up two takeaway curries. I didn’t know then that my life would change forever. Although I was short of one naan the ladies ensured that I would receive it once the chefs had cooked it for me. Whilst I waited they offered me a drink and allowed me to sit at a table. Once I had all of my food I left. That’s when everything changed. Once at home and sat down with my partner ready to eat our curries. Both of our eyes met across the table. With the same shock and surprise in our eyes. We both knew instantly that what we were eating was liquid gold. The curries renewed our souls. My partner eating his chicken tikka masala and I my butter chicken. We were in heaven. We quickly decided that this was to now be our go to curry place.
With this in mind I booked a table for the both of us for a last night dinner before going back to work. Again, neither of us were disappointed. The ladies worked hard ensuring the table was never empty of food. We opted to go for starters and mains and of course the obligatory popadoms. I felt as though we had transported to India and sat down ready to eat a feast. We were both salivating and excited to enjoy our curries together. Hoping to relive our previous experience.
Yet again they did not disappoint. There are reasons this is now our favourite restaurant. The ladies could not have been more wonderful and the food could not have hit more tastebuds. It was all delectable and in all honesty I wish it could have lasted forever.
Punjabi virsa know how customer loyalty works and they hit the nail on the head every time.
I highly recommend this restaurant and you are missing out if you have not eaten here. This restaurant will change your life.
It is a hidden gem. But once you have found it. You will NEVER forget it.

Drinks a bit expensive. Cobra pint £6.99 and a glass of coke £3
Over all we had a good meal and enjoyed being taken care of by Mansi and Jashan.

I ordered a takeaway from here, second time as I absolutely loved my first experience, but I was disgusted with the service. My food turned up an hour late, cold with the two dips popped open all over the containers and dripping out of the carrier bag.
The lady on the phone couldn’t answer or understand me and just kept saying they were too busy.
Such a shame as I found the food to be lovely, unfortunately this went straight in the bin as it was ruined.

A very nice dining experience at this small but tasty restaurant.
Approaching from the road on foot it appears as if it might not be the best quality as it isn’t around any other food business, you might even miss it passing by on the road. The Google reviews convinced me to try it. Happy that I did. I was the only diner in there when I entered but the service and the speed was not something you van complain about. The food was tasty and I’m sure all the other dishes on the menu are just as nice. Quite cheap for the food when you look at the amount you get and joy in every mouthful.
Definitely would recommend this place if you are visiting the area and I will certainly return when I am next in Newbury.

Just got home from eating authentic, delicious and very tasty food at the Punjabi Virsa in Newbury, Berkshire.
We ordered pappodums to have with our drinks.
We then ordered Palak pakoras, Chicken Dansak, Gan Fish Curry, Peshwari Naan and Punjabi Rice to share between the 2 of us.
The service is very warm, friendly and as it’s family run they go out of their way to make sure everyone is looked after whether you are eating in or ordering a take away.
We will definitely be returning.

An absolute Gem. From London and randomly went in for a simple masala chai, however the food i tried was amazing. Full of flavours. Tried the paneer chilli, tawa paneer, fry moms, chaap and the mushroom lasoni. Had Gajjar Halwa & Gulab Jamun with a cup of masala tea. Must visit!! Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality and will definitely drop in again when in the area.

Very good punjabi restaurant, it’s in a weird location on hambridge road, there’s some parking, and seating outside. Prices are very reasonable, some dishes are cheap. I tried the chefs special punjabi chicken karahi which was very good, the chicken dansak was OK but could do with more flavour. Onion bahji was very good, it was mixed with potato, similar to pakora. Naan bread was interesting it was thinner and fried so was crispy, but still good. Definitely worth checking out.
