Rasoi, which means cooking, reminds me of delicious food cooked by my mother back home in India. Many of my fondest childhood memories include sneaking into the kitchen for freshly made snacks, sweets and basically a handful of anything my mom made. As I moved to different parts of the world, I kept missing the aroma and taste of my mother’s creation of flavorful dishes. This yearning led me from engineering to becoming a chef. I learned cooking in the busy streets of Delhi, transplanted the flavors to the busy streets of NYC and finally settled as a Head Chef in Virginia Beach. Now, after 30 years in the industry I felt short on liberty to create the flavors of my childhood dishes, leading me to open Punjabi Rasoi, the closest thing to

I had the best chai tea here, and the samosas were great. However, the biryani wasn’t that good. It’s supposed to be light and dry, with distinct flavors, but it tasted like chicken curry and rice cooked together, which was disappointing. Still, the service was smooth and the atmosphere was great. I would somewhat recommend it—give it a try; some of you might like it .

very mid tier. maybe i’ve just gotten so accustomed to saffron (town center location) but i feel like this is missing depth of flavor? i got the butter chicken and it’s very okay. the samosas are fine. theyre big and have a lot of filling which is nice. i wish they offered ones with meat in them but i know veg is standard. portion sizes are okay. it says you get a free dessert with every online order but i didnt get one (there was no automatic dessert or discount applied when i purchased online). i was excited to eat this because saffron closes in the afternoon for a couple hours and i wanted indian food. but im not really feeling like it was worth $40. i would definitely recommend saffron over this.

As soon as you walk in, delicious flavorful smells waft into your nose and Punjabi music sets the vibe. The food was delicious! The do ask you what spice level you prefer. I got the Lamb tiki at a 3 and it was just right (I eat spicy cheetos and Mexican food regularly for reference). My wife got a Butter Chicken at a spice level 2 (she thinks salt is a spice). We also got a bread basket and have no complaints.
A bit expensive but worth it if you want some good Indian food.
Service was good.

We visited Punjabi Rasaoi while in Virginia Beach and tried the Chicken Biryani. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a great experience.

The food was extremely spicy!
We specifically ordered Indian Spice Chicken Biryani,
but it wasn’t dum biryani. Instead, they mixed red chili heavily into the rice, which overpowered the flavor.

The chicken itself was well-cooked, but the overall taste just didn’t work. Also, they played religious music for a long time, which didn’t suit the dining atmosphere. Service was okay.

Quiet and traditional, the food was outstanding and the service was wonderful! The atmosphere is family oriented and personal! We were treated like old friends as we dined casually on fresh and carefully prepared food that you can tell is made lovingly! What a great little spot, we will definitely be back to try more of their delicious offerings!

First time trying Indian food, cute place! Great server suggested the butter chicken while my husband went with a vindaloo, both excellent. Rich + bold flavor, 2 is all I can handle for the spice haha. We will be back, thank you!

Absolutely outstanding food!! I got the butter chicken curry and my husband got the lamb biryani. I got mine Indian hot and it was spicy and amazing. I love spicy food, and it was terrific. The carrot pudding after our meal was delicious too. Fresh food. Amazing hospitality! We’re so glad we came.

This dinner was incredible! My fiance and I had just got into town and we were hungry for some Tika Masala, and we heard this place was the best in the Norfolk area- we were not disappointed!
DRINKS:
Mango Mule: was perfectly sweet and you could tell the mango addition was fresh puree. The combination with fresh cucumber was delicious.
Lemongrass Jazmine Iced Tea: this was the perfect balance of tart and sweet with a subtle floral flavor from the Jazmine. Oddly enough, it almost reminded me of a tamarindo
FOOD:
My fiance and I shared the Lamb Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken. Both were given the medium hot spice level which was perfect for us as it got the nose running slightly, but didn’t ruin it by being too spicy.
Both dishes were served piping hot and were seasoned beautifully. The lamb was very tender with hardly any gristle. You DEFINITELY need to order the bread basket with your meal as it comes with a variety of naan my favorite was the garlic butter naan which made my eyes roll every bite.
SERVICE:
The service here is great! When we were eating my fiance and I noted it felt as if we were being served at a friend’s house by their grandmother. Our waitress was a sweet old Indian woman who was all smiles and had a great attitude. Since it was our first time she even treated us with rice pudding, on the house! And let me tell you, I’ve never gotten excited about rice pudding but this stuff was the bomb!!

This isn’t really as much on them as it is on Google for recommending them. I was specifically searching for food in a price range of 0 to 10 bucks according to Google and look at this place because they were listed. They are listed as charging 20 to 30 bucks per meal. The fact that Google is willing to recommend places that are not in the filtered range that you give them just because they’re sponsored does not look good on google. I’m sorry this place was part of it.
