We drove 45 mins to eat here. The place was small but yet it was one of the best Italian in the DMV. Service was excellent and food was SO SO GOOD.

Simple items were extremely excellent!!!
Gluten free pizza was exceptionally delicious!
I understand why reservations for dinner are recommended. Tiny jewel of a place.
We came for lunch after a doctor’s appointment, recommended by the staff.
Need to add: we took home half a pizza each, warmed it up and it was nearly as delicious as when first served!!!

“From the moment we stepped in, we were wrapped in the comforting charm of this little Italian gem. The aroma of fresh herbs and baked bread set the tone for what turned out to be a truly heartwarming experience. Each dish was crafted with such love and authenticity—it felt like a home-cooked meal in a Tuscan kitchen. The staff were genuinely kind and attentive, making us feel like part of the family. It’s the kind of place you leave with a full belly and a full heart.”

Yes, the food was super, but the service was even better, and on top of that, they are very generous with their customers.

Wonderful food and service. I would certainly recommend and would return. It would be great if they also had a wine selection but even better they actually allow outside wine with no separate corkage charge. There is a store nearby in walking distance if wine is needed. The pizza is brick oven and there are some interesting pasta dishes as well. Great to have a local place we can walk to.

We ordered take away here and were blown away by just how bland the food was.

Spaghetti and meatballs –
Positives: the pasta was cooked. We ordered sausage as an extra and that tasted fine.
Negatives: the meatballs tasted like straight from the container to the skillet with zero spices of any kind. I am not exaggerating when I say there was NO. Flavor.

Bread accompaniment-
Positives: it was cooked.
Negatives: how do you have bland bread? Bread by itself is relatively mild in flavor but this tasted like they substituted salt and spices for hopes and dreams.

Green beans –
Positives: it was cooked, seasoned lightly, not soggy or overcooked.
Negatives: none.

Salad –
I didn’t have it but my partner said it was pretty good.

Tiramisu –
Positives: it was a large serving
Negatives: it tasted like the main flavors were cinnamon and water. The dessert was soggy, nearly flavorless, and disgusting. I barely finished my only bite.

My wife and I both got seriously sick within 6 to 10 hours of eating our lunch delivery (she ate her entire meal in one sitting, while I promptly refrigerated leftovers and ate the rest early evening, an hour before i got sick). We ordered separate dishes (gnocchi bolognese for her and spaghetti carbonara for me, as well as pasta fagioli for her and ceasar salad for me). It’s shocking for a longtime local spot like this to have a hygiene issue, and I have never gotten sick from any other restaurant in Mclean.

I enjoyed the Veal Piccata on this visit. A generous serving, the veal was delicious in a mild lemony sauce. It came with correctly al dente pasta with tomato sauce, with added grated cheese. I do appreciate restaurants that bring bread to tease the appetite ahead of the meal; this was served with olive oil for dipping, much preferable to butter.

I’ll return to Pulcinella for the friendly, professional service, comfortable seating, fresh atmosphere, and enviable menu offerings.

We could not stay away so we returned yesterday, even though we had Italian food the day before. Our server, AJ, was superb. Our soups and entrees were nice and piping hot. The flavors were incredible. So far, you can taste every dish’s unique flavors. The kitchen here does not mess around. AND, the tiramisu was to die for. I was speechless. We will be back soon.

A breath of fresh air. Nothing has changed in McLean in the last 40 year but it looks like things are headed towards a new direction. Pulcinella has given me a reason to come back to McLean. From what I understand, the current new location is smaller than its original location but the food is fantastic. My appetizers of clam chowder soup and mussels in marinara sauce were served piping hot and succulent. The salsiccia pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella, beef sausage, beef pepperoni) was delicious. The pizza dough was perfectly executed, a nice golden brown. In all my years of dining on Italian cuisine I have never had the linguini agnello, marinated lamb in balsamic, pesto, and light tomato sauce. It was unbelievable. The flavors were absolutely amazing! The chef and his team are top notch. Upon entering the restaurant, the young man and young lady were very welcoming and attentive. We look forward to returning.
