Puerto Vallarta is not your typical Wichita Mexican restaurant. In a town where “authentic” often translates to a sombrero nailed to a wall and a basket of chips that tastes faintly of freezer burn, this place feels…different. Better, even.

The owner moves around the room the way a hummingbird works a flower patch—quick, attentive, occasionally startling. He checks on every table as if he’s personally responsible for our emotional well-being, which, in my case that night, he absolutely was.

The food? Good. Good enough that Abuelos, may it rest in peace, probably closed out of embarrassment. That place was a public disservice—like someone watched a documentary about Mexico once and thought, I can cook that. Puerto Vallarta, though, makes an honest effort. The mole, for instance, is clearly engineered for Wichita’s less-than-Latin clientele, but it still passes as mole in the same way an off-brand soda still tastes vaguely like cola.

I went on a night when my emotions were doing the full Cirque du Soleil routine. Fortunately, their margarita—industrial in size, medicinal in effect—smoothed everything into a tolerable blur. For one evening, at least, life felt manageable, and I have Puerto Vallarta to thank for that.

First time at this restaurant. Staff were very pleasent. Lots of patio seating available. Menu has numerous choices. Salsa and refried beans are complementarily served with tortilla chips. I had the Tequila Chicken, which was quite good. It was stuffed with cilantro rice, with a nice sauce with grilled peppers and onions. There are drink specials too. This was a Wednesday, so half priced drinks. I enjoyed a Margarita.

I cannot overstate how incredible this place is. I went there with my family while visiting from out of town and the food was divine. I am a big fan of spicy food and Puerto Vallarta did not disappoint! Furthermore, the food was divinely flavorful–I want to return to try everything on the menu.

To top off the S tier food, the service was perfect. I recently renewed my driver’s license and accidentally left my temporary paper ID on the table. It was accidentally bussed and thrown in the trash (through ZERO fault of the server, this was completely my own mistake). I called them shortly after realizing I had left it and one of the owners DUG THROUGH THE TRASH OUT BACK AND FOUND MY ID. I was literally in tears at the kindness she showed me through her willingness to do that. I cannot wait to return!! Truly amazing people running this restaurant.

I went here for my birthday last night and was so impressed with the food and service. I got the Chile Verde which was so flavorful and had tons of meat in the serving. I can’t believe I’ve lived in Wichita so long and just now finding about this amazing restaurant. We will definitely be back.

If you haven’t tried this little locally owned Mexican Restaurant in West Wichita….you must RUN THERE NOW! A true authentic, and delicious place to visit with friends. I absolutely love their Smothered Burrito with Asada and a side of Mexican Rice. We enjoy the bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers, and the tacos! Omg the tacos. Oh and the Blackberry Margaritas are to die for. Really haven’t had anything I wouldn’t order again. Not to mention they have almost daily specials! Check them out, you won’t regret it

Reviews say this Mexican restaurant serves delicious, authentic-tasting food, including tacos, enchiladas, and bacon-wrapped jalapeños. Some highlight the chips, salsa, and bean dip which actually was delicious. Rest assured they actually are correct. Hole in the wall spot and it deserves more of a spotlight. PEDRO is the owner and you can tell that he cares about the environment his restaurant has and the food that comes out of the kitchen are up to his standards. ARIANNA I believe her name is was our server and she was upbeat and very personable. 10/10 recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food and great service. Thanks again we will be back for more future adventures.

Traveled down to Wichita to visit my son. We wanted to eat out, so my wife threw a dart and we hit here. It was easy enough choosing our seats, mixed culture crowd, perfect for us. Our server,, Adriane, came right to our table and handed us menus, took our drink order. When she came back and placed our drinks, she went back and brought us a basket of Chips, refried beans which were probably the best combo I ever had, the salsa hit the spot as well. Then the main dishes arrived and all I can say, speaking for the 3 of us, was the meals were delicious! We crushed them, they were proportioned so you didn’t feel like you overate and were gassed. And topping it off, my wife chose Tres’ Leches pie, drenched in sweet cream. She loved it, I only got a bite, but dang it was good!

Went back tonight for the 2nd time for their national taco day special. The waitress was didn’t know about the special. We ordered our tacos and I ordered a margarita. The tacos were good, I enjoyed the chicken and the pork tacos. The service tonight was maybe having an off night. I never did get the margarita I ordered and they never refilled out chips and salsa. They were not busy either. Tacos were good though.

Went for the first time tonight for dinner. The place is pretty small and seat yourself. But the servers were all very friendly and helpful and service was pretty quick. They bring out chips and salsa and bean dip. The salsa was pretty good. The beans were just beans. Added a bit of salsa to them and they were . We got the crazy nachos for appetizer. I liked that they have 3 different meats which helped my decide which meat I liked best to get in my burrito. They could have stood to have more cheese, but were still good. I got the smothered carnitas burrito with both red and green sauces. It was very good and super filling. My husband got the steak chimichanga burrito. He said it was very good too. We well definitely have to come back.

UPDATE – we returned to have lunch. I ordered the Pollo el Hango and he ordered the Crab and Shrimp burrito. Both were phenomenal!!

First timer at Puerto Vallarta and it won’t be our last. Tequila chicken and the four tacos platter (I can’t remember the name) were absolutely delicious! The thing that surprised me most was the bean dip that they bring out with their chips and salsa. I’m not a bean kinda gal, ever. But I devoured two sauce bowls of this thing. Must try! Service was exceptional! Heard they even have a brunch with 10 cent mimosas. Will have to stop by and check that out!
