Stepping into Puerto Nuevo Mexican & Seafood, you immediately feel the vibrant atmosphere, but the true test of any great Mexican restaurant starts with the basics. In this case, the chips and salsa absolutely set a high standard. The chips were warm, thin, and perfectly salted, and the salsa was chunky, zesty, and clearly made fresh and too spicy. It was an addictively good start. They also offer a salsa bar. As I’m a creature of habit I went straight for the steak chimichanga, and it did not disappoint. The tortilla was fried to a beautiful golden crispness, not greasy at all. It was filled (stuffed) with deliciously flavored and tender steak. The meat was seasoned perfectly and topped with melted queso blanco that elevated the whole dish. It was extremely flavorful and prepared how a chimichanga should be. We also ordered the fried shrimp, often a risk at places focused on land cuisine, but this was a delightful surprise. The shrimp were split and large, plump, and coated in a light, crispy batter. Overall, Puerto Nuevo Mexican & Seafood is a must-visit. From the mandatory chips and salsa to the exceptional steak chimichanga and surprisingly excellent fried shrimp, the quality and execution across the menu are top notch. Price mark was fair $$
I highly recommend
NOTE: The reddish brown sauce that appears on the Chimichanga pictures is a hot sauce that I put on after it was served. It didn’t need it but I do like my hot sauce. Lol

I got some peal and ear shrimp and the guacamole mexicano to go. Both were great with a lot of flavor. The staff were friendly and accommodating.

Had a great dinner. The seafood fajitas (fajitas del mar) for two was really good and easily fed two adults, hungry adults! Easy in and out unless it’s a Clemson game day but even then a traffic light helps. Will definitely be back.

So far – in my experience, this is THE spot for Mexican food in the Anderson area! They have an open salsa bar…is there anything else to say?
Complementary chips & salsa for the table right off the bat. They will refill your chips, too.
I had the Pollo Fundido, and my wife tried the special Quesadilla (chicken, shrimp, beef). We both were served generous portions and absolutely loved every taste! The queso was also really tasty here, and it was neat that they give you a few warm soft tortillas with the queso.
This is already where I recommend friends to visit if they are looking for Mexican due to generous portions, great food, and excellent service.
Will be back!

FLOCK TO THIS PLACE. By far the best Mexican restaurant in Anderson, maybe even the whole upstate. Service was excellent, the food was amazing (we had the guacamole, Pollo de Roqueta, Floutas, Combo #7, and Cheesecake Xangos) and let me tell you what: I will be back. Everything was delicious!!!

While traveling we were looking for a lunch option near the highway other than fast food. The friendly host helped us with menus. We ordered individual tacos, knowing we wanted to eat quickly, and we had our food in less than ten minutes. The host made sure we knew about the salsa bar which had to go containers available. The tacos themselves were outstanding. They were generously filled and served in doubled, soft and flavorful tortillas. Not only that, they came with a roasted onion and large pepper as well as a container of additional toppings, sides of black beans, and chips and salsa. What a great lunch for a very reasonable price.

I ordered all seafood. No tartar sauce available. I was offered Thousand Island. By the time I got it, the food was cold. The catfish was soggy. My main came with a side salad. I had to ask for it after the food arrived. The salad was cold, which is good. But so was the food. I had high hopes, but it was yucky. When I explained the issues, I received blank stares. Try another place.
