What little time I spent here, the service, much less surroundings were absolutely well worth it and then some!
Very rarely is a simple watering hole such as this so elaborate!

The charm of this old tavern is what drew us in and would make us go back. The unbreaded cheese curds were great.

Nice lunch with a friend! Bloody Maria was awesome with a “Spotted Cow” chaser! French onion soup was good also with a half of turkey sandwich. Great customer service with a smile Love the history of the beautiful murals on the walls!

Very nice, historic place. Had a very good liverwurst (specifically braunschweiger) sandwich on seedless rye. We also had the “Italuan beef, with hot peppers and au jus” (both on the side) sandwich, which was, well, very different from the juicy, almost shredded pepperoncini‐mixed Chicago-style “Italian beef” we have had many places. Not the same thing, this is just slices of Italian Roast Beef lunchmeat on a bun. The menu needs to describe this better. Overall, a nice historic place, good atmosphere. Dollars tossed up to the ceiling go to charity.

I was immediately drawn to this place because of the historic look of the outside. I was originally a little nervous of the small menu, but sometimes the best places know exactly what makes them good and they don’t need a huge menu. The menu is classic to the town and they do it well. I got the brat, yet simple, it was delicious and packed with flavor. The inside is full on in the past and that makes it so interesting to look at and completes the experience. The prices are even better and the full bar menu is great as well. Very happy I chose to come here.

Stopped in for an Old Fashioned. The guy behind the bar (I think someone called him Chuck) was very put out when we asked for our 2 drinks. One had WAY too much simple syrup & was so sweet it was not drinkable. We didn’t have food.

We visited New Glarus, WI, AKA Little Switzerland. After enjoying walking around the shops we stopped in Puempel’s Olde Tavern for lunch. I had the bratwurst sandwich with chips which was very tasty. At the table there was a choice of 3 different mustards to choose from to put on my brat.
My husband chose the broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl. The others had the Italian Beef sandwich which they all said was great.
We all enjoyed looking at the murals painted on the walls and enjoyed hearing about the history of the Tavern.
Many locals were there and seemed to be the place to be. They were very friendly and spoke to us about the history when they heard us talking to the waitresses.

Yogi was a wonderful waitress. She told us of several places to visit in New Glarus and Green County. The brats were fantastic. I loved the cheese curds….and the New Glarus beer. Very neat atmosphere.

The #1 must stop for all things “Little Switzerland”. If Chuck is there take the time to learn some local lore. Chili is top notch and beer is cold. Very reasonable prices.
