We stopped here from visiting our friends in Fletcher that recommended it.
The atmosphere was busy and friendly. As we were told .
I can tell you this the burgers are as fresh as the hand cut fries. I can tell a frozen burger at first bite.
I got the Puddledock burger, the turkey burger and a pepper jelly burger. We couldn’t decide whether to take it to go or to stay but everyone wanted to stay.
The owners have a great sense of humor with their Halloween decoration. I love the bike one I guess geared for the biker customers that come here from the LVRT but the one by the portalet was so funny!
Prices were about the same as anywhere you go maybe less. Didn’t seem to cost that much for 3 people. Around $30.
Many of these food stands are closed this time of year but this place is open. Just weekends the sign says.
Highly recommended hope to come back before it closes for the season!

Puddledock sends a confusing message to what are likely their biggest customer base.

Puddledock is located right off the LVRT. You cannot miss it if you are riding west to east and it is a perfect spot to gain a lot of business from cyclists passing through on their ride up the trail. This is naturally what we thought as we rode through and we decided to make a stop to fill our bottles and hit the faculties before continuing on.

We initially noticed signs sternly requesting bikes stay out of the sitting area and directing them to a rack well away from the fenced off tables. Not a huge deal. Next we noticed that of all the porta johns that we had seen on our time riding the trails, this portajohn is locked to customers only. Again, not the end of the world as we were intending on ordering some food anyway.

When we initially interacted with the cook/owner(?) she seemed a bit standoffish until we put our order in. We did get to talking with her and the conversation got much more cordial while telling us a story of an incident that had occured that apparantly drove her to restricting bikes from being near the tables.

We did order food, a plain cheeseburger, an order of fries and a small ice cream that came in at $16. The quality of the food was fine, the fries were pretty good and hit the spot after being in the saddle for a couple hours already.

While I don’t think any malice is intended, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Puddledock is really alienating it’s primary clientele from the LVRT, at least that is the overall vibe the signs and layout were giving. It really is unfortunate about the incident that caused some of the bike rules, but hopefully Puddledock can find a better way to coexist with the cyclists riding the trails.

Overall, I would make another stop here if I were riding the trails again. It is still decent food that in my opinion is not overpriced. Just respect the signs and hopefully you will receive the respect we got in return as well.

EDIT: After completing this review I checked out a couple more reviews left here and noticed one that stated Puddledock is set up on the owners private property, and this brought a lot of the rest of my review into perspective. It doesn’t, however, overly change my overall opinion.

Puddledock is situated as almost a perfect halfway point between the beginning of the LVRT’s west end in Swanton and Jeffersonville, and there really isn’t much else between these two towns as far as rest stops or places to grab food if you are sticking to the trail.

Understand that the average person cycling through is going to see this spot as somewhere they can take a quick break. This is the expectation that the owner has created by placing a business here and a sitting area here. As the reviews are showing, alienating the customers that benefit the most from your business is typically bad for business. I do hope Puddledock can figure out how to better exist alongside the patrons of the LVRT.

Friendly, fast service ,delicious fresh food. Always running special burgers that are not on her large menu. Gluten free options and vegan. Family friendly with a kids area and corn hole.
Cash /Venmo only. She’s only open weekends.
To address those butt hurt individuals that posted low reviews.
There are signs ( 3) that say no out side food or drinks. She’s running a business no other establishment would allow that.
As a cyclist myself. Ive always felt welcomed! However, I’ve seen rude cyclists towards the owner when they don’t get their way., like bringing in their own food or mad because they can’t get free water ( she sells bottled water!) or that the port a potty is locked . It’s for customers. She has to pay for it for us to use. (She also bought a large bike rack for us!)
She didn’t have the restroom when she first started.
I’ve seen some of you flipped her off, swear and try to intimidate her. Behavior unnecessary and unbecoming of users of the railtrail.
There is a sign on the grass with the tree and electric sign is, that simply states to stay off the grass and do not rest stop here. It’s on a post near the handmade stone wall Trying to get the grass to grow and stones to not be knocked off. I get it. It’s personal property. If you don’t want her to call out to you “ please stay off the grass” because I’ve heard her say it! then read and respect her signs and property.
Grow up!!
The seating area is roped off for the reason of when she’s closed. So cyclists don’t make themselves at home. It’s still private property If you’re offended by that, that’s your problem.
She’s opened a food trailer on HER property, it’s not owned by the Railtrail.. she didn’t open it only for the LVRT. Users
She’s offering a service for us to enjoy. It’s not hard to be thankful and kind to the owner. She does it all by herself. Just talk to her you will see how kind she is. I’ve also seen her apologize to some of you to make it clear as to why she’s “ singled you out” and because she doesn’t want to be seem as unfriendly but some you guys just come across as entitled assholes!
There’s no where else this end of the trail. Many of us are grateful for that!
I’ve been stopping here for 3 years now. I will continue to support her.
Thank you Puddledock!!

I so happen to stopped here at Puddledock Sunday 8/31.( I frequent it about 1-2x a month) The place was pretty busy.
I did see Sarah the one who posted a low review) with a man picnicking on the grass in the wooden fence are a. The owner did go over and said “ hi and Sarah said hi back. The owner asked if they were customers and she said no. The owners said kindly leave and the Guy said when I’m done eating . The owner said no you’ll leave now. There’s a park just down the road you can eat at. Turning away headed back to serve other customers.
Not once did she yell at them! Sarah was just put out having to leave. There are signs that say don’t rest here, customers only! Just because she neglected to read it or just plain ignored it because of the lack of information about the park that’s on them. Sarah is right though that if cyclists don’t plan on eating at this establishment they should NOT stop!
I had the VT Steak sandwich which came with fries. It was amazing. The VT bacon jam is amazing! Highly recommend

Beautiful day on the trail stopped in again to see what the specials were there were gobbler fries, gobbler burger and a leaf peeper pepper burger. I opted for the gobbler burger which was delicious. Pretty busy here today and the owner was pretty creative with some decorations.
I did see some fellow cyclists that drove through the line of orange cones like it didn’t mean anything. The owner didn’t say anything to them. I guess she’s figured what’s the point when people can’t honor or respect boundaries. She’s always friendly and lets you know if there’s a few orders ahead of them. I asked if she was by herself today and she said yes She was sorry about the wait I told her I wait longer at other places. She’s hoping to stay open until the end of month

Nice little food trailer. Food was good.
Homemade beef, macaroni and tomato soup and grilled cheese with hot cider really hit the spot on this cool Saturday end of October.

Great spot right off of the LVRT! My wife and I had the rodeo burger and spicy chicken sandwich with a side of Puddledock fries (cheese, maple syrup, bacon), very tasty! Was very happy to see that it was open on Sunday!

Came to write a quick review and decided to read a few first. Seems like many users on the railtrail are upset.
I’m a user of the Lamoille Valley Trail and don’t see a problem.
The seating area roped off ong, so!! it’s sets a perimeter of the food trailer. The bike rack is Literally 8 steps to the picnic tables. 8 ! There’s a sign before walking in that literally reads please no bikes in seating area and directs one to the bike rack provided. It also says no outside food and drinks but reusable ones are fine. There’s 2 other on posts that says no outside food or drinks. It’s a food truck can you go into Zachary’s park your bike inside where you eat and unpack your sandwich? I don’t think so.
Also there’s no smoking of any kind.
I did see the Porta John locked for customers only? Why is that so hard for non customers to understand? They’re not cheap. If non customers use it all day and not contribute to the costs or cleanup, toilet paper and hand sanitizer why would it be fair for the establishment pay for it just for you to use and not at least get a $3 ice cram. Such whiners !
I found the Porta John clean which is nice because many I’ve seen are not!
I got the special gobbler fries and a double cheeseburger. Very good! Wish I took a picture because it was like an early thanksgiving dinner on fries!
There’s always reasons for rules, etc. things must have happened here to lead to it! We don’t know but it’s not that big of deal.
Some say the cook was unfriendly unless there’s more than one I found her pretty friendly and the food well cooked, proportion and reasonable price.
Definitely wood recommended and return again.

It’s summer in Franklin County, VT along Route 36, and you don’t feel like cooking. So, you are looking for a place to stop. Not just any stop though. You want both ice cream and hot, scratch-made fries aside tasty protein options. This East Fairfield food-truck… yes, this is your place. There are covered, colorful picnic tables for you to sit, unwind and feed your face. Very satisfying. Decent prices, and decent servings. Yes, water, and sodas that make a meal a treat. Now, to the ice cream. Many options from simple maple creemee to full-fledged sundaes are available. I hope you saved room. Bonus: Puddledock has equipment to keep little ones content while your food is being cooked. Plenty of free, level parking nearby. Condiments are serve yourself. I understand they’re closing Columbus Day weekend for the season, so make your plans accordingly. Update: June 2025. Fries remain stellar. Try the new Lobster Roll with fresh coleslaw!

My husband and I made the serious mistake of stopping our bikes on the grass near this place next to the bike stand just to take a breather. We thought we were well enough away from the food stand. We did not see any signage indicating that we could not sit there. A woman, probably the owner/cook, came stomping the 20 yards over to us and asked if we were customers. We said we were just taking a short break. She yelled at us to get off her property and kept yelling at us in front of customers until we were on the rail trail. The “damage”we did was leaving seat marks in the grass. There should be signage on the rail trail just before Puddledock alerting cyclists not to stop unless they plan to purchase food. Honestly, she ought to put up a chain link fence around her private property to send the appropriate message. Do not stop at this place unless you’d like a plate of nastiness!

This was one of the most unpleasant food service experiences my husband and I have experienced while cycling. First of all, despite Puddledock being directly on the rails trail, they have roped off all of the picnic tables and made it very unfriendly to cyclists. While sitting at a picnic table and waiting for my husband to meet me (he had done extra miles) the owner asked what I wanted. I told her I was waiting for my husband before ordering and she looked put out. When he arrived we ordered some (overpriced) ice cream and left a tip. The woman’s entire demeanor was rude and unfriendly. After finishing our ice cream we stopped in the shade of a tree on the grass, outside of the roped off area, to reorganize water bottles. The owner yelled at us to get off the grass! We immediately fled, never to return. Why put your business on the rail trail if you don’t want to serve cyclists? If you are a thirsty cyclist, try the Irving down the street.

Ice cream Sunday was one very small scoop cheep fake vanilla ice cream, 1 tsp cold fudge on bottom and 2 cup whipped cream, all for 8 dollars. Crabby person complaining she was overworked. Food poorly cooked and super small portions for a lot of money and 45 min wait. Do not recommend.
