I had really high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately, my experience fell short. Upon arrival at 5pm, yes early birds but a Sunday and we had an early start on Monday, there was ample seating available, yet the chef stated they were fully booked. Ok but even when we left there were seats. Could have made a better effort. Despite having a reservation, I found myself faced with the choice of either sitting outside with a view of nothing on Ventura avenue in Woodland Hills or at the bar, which happened to be right next to the restroom. What a choice lol. I hesitated to leave even though my husband said we should and gave it a chance, thinking it might not be so bad. Boy was I wrong.

My recommendation? Avoid sitting at the bar! It’s very, very uncomfortable, and being located next to the restroom is not ideal. On a positive note, our waitress was friendly and engaging and drinks were good.

We started with the octopus as an appetizer, which was tasty but could have been prepared differently; it was served with corn, which felt a bit out of place and a little lackluster. For the main course, we ordered the branzino and the lasagna. The branzino was mediocre, while the lasagna had a unique flavor and was tasty but was overwhelmed by excessive sauce.

The wine list was impressive—I particularly enjoyed the Far Niente. However, be aware of the credit card surcharge. Our total bill was over $300 for two, including a shared appetizer, two drinks each, and two entrees.
Regrettably, I won’t be returning. The seating was uncomfortable, and I believe there are better dining options nearby, like Casalena, Tosca Nova, Adagio, Hom, and Porta Via etc This is just my opinion, so feel free to try it for yourself, but do steer clear of the bar seats next to the restroom.

Good place for special occasions like a birthday or anniversary. The cocktail and wine menu is well curated. The food is the real star with many good options to choose from. Street parking can be limited depending on time of day. Inside seating can get a little tight when busy so plan accordingly.

My husband and I found Prose on TikTok and we loved it! The fresh sourdough that came with truffle butter (big truffle lover) and honey butter with chives was phenomenal. Very fresh. I got the miso cod (delicious miso sauce and so much flavor in the coconut rice) and my husband got the lasagna. The lasagna was a little light on the short rib but the ricotta added excellent flavor. We finished our meal with the toffee date cake – so good! We’ll be back for sure.

The interior is pretty small but cozy and enjoyed the ambiance.

Welcome to a new jem in West Valley! Just had a fabulous dinner with friends last night at Prose. We were greeted by the hostess and the owner, chef David, before we were seated at a booth table. It was a pleasure seeing the chef going around tables, meeting locals, and getting feedback. We decided to share several appetizers and ordered each main dish. We brought our special bottle of wine, $35 cork fee, howerever, their own slection was great, too. The management is working on getting a liquor license, which will be a great addition.
All the apps were wonderful; we enjoyed tokyo style carpaccio with some biscuits, beet salad with labneh, and zucchini blossoms.
We also enjoed chefs spin on lasagna, which I loved with lots of short rib and so much flavor. My husband enjoyed crab pasta, which apparently is their popular dish already. We ordered few glasses of their french wine, which did not disappoint. For a dessert, since we were celebrating a birthday, they brought out delishious chocolate cake with caramel and ice cream. Considering that they were open only a week or so, they did very well. The service was great, not rushed, and well organized with attentive staff. The place is beautifully decorated and cozy, awesome for small family and friends gatherings, intimate dinner, and such. We are definitely coming back to try more of Chef David creations. Make reservations as this place will get popular very fast.

Prose is a San Fernando Valley gem! It felt like dining in the home of your chic & eclectic friend. The interior was vibrant and beautiful. Very good food & excellent service. Start with the house made biscuits with honey butter! We also enjoyed the octopus (perfect texture w/ a kick), citrus crudo, crab & lemon pasta (made in house!) and yummy chicken thighs. The only con, in my opinion, is there isn’t a full service bar. There’s a nice selection of beer & wines but a cocktail would’ve been a nice accompaniment. A must try if you’re in the area and worth the drive if you’re not!

Prose just opened in Woodland Hills by a chef with local roots. The restaurant is perfect for a date night, after hours meal or dinner with family/friends. The atmosphere is chic with classic rustic modern vibes. I really enjoyed our server Greg, he took his time giving us a background on the restaurant and going through the menu, sharing his favorite items so far. What I found very interesting is that although we had a server other servers checked on us as well – which makes the overall experience warm and friendly. I hope you go and enjoy it’s nice to have an other great option to dine locally in the area .

I forgot to add that the bar made me my own drink that wasn’t on the roster!!! Just another example of the service you can expect.

Hidden new gem in Woodland Hills! Prose Kitchen & Bar blew me away.
It’s in this quaint little corner on Ventura Blvd—classy but unpretentious. Chef David came out personally to greet us, which made it feel even more special.
We kicked off with the Cheddar Chive Biscuits—fantastic. Tokyo Style” Beef Carpaccio and the Black Garlic Charred Octopus—honestly, the octopus had a flavor I’ve never tasted before, in the best way possible. Super creative.
All got a great selection of Italian reds, which paired beautifully with the dishes. And I have to mention the Anthony Bourdain photo on the wall—resonating with patrons who appreciate culinary artistry and storytelling.
Definitely coming back. Class, comfort, and incredible food.

This is a new restaurant in the SFV.

These little cheddar chive biscuits were quite cute and tasty. The octopus was very tender which was great but the Asian flavors didn’t work well. We thought it was a mole but we were wrong. The beet salad was nice. I enjoyed the squash blossoms because they were different than most I’ve had. The Caesar salad was fresh & crisp. The hanger steak was good just not special. The pana cotta was refreshing. The lemon granita was the kicker.

Very small and tight restaurant. Staff were all very nice. Chef made his table rounds. They are busy!

This review is late in coming. I dined here back in November with my family for my birthday. The food was excellent. I had the lasagna with short rib and lots of garlic. We also shared a salad with thinly sliced persimmon. Drinks were amazing! Everyone was very pleased with their meal. I will definitely be back again, and I tell all of my foodie friends about this place!
