Service was relatively quick and friendly.
Atmosphere was a rustic small town vibe with comical propaganda posters plastered all over the walls.
Backyard seating with a beautiful view.
Parking can be difficult on the weekends.
It isn’t just Detroit style blue pan pizza done right, it is done better than most of its influences. There is a difference between homemade and scratch, and Propaganda Pie is a true scratch kitchen. Every piece of dough or bread and every drop of sauce was made in house with ingredients sourced as locally as possible and of the highest tier of quality.
The old guard of big city pizza joints (mostly) make homemade pizza with whatever ingredients are available to them. This is why they are consistent, reliable, and delicious. However, there is simply no substitute for scratch made freshness, the evidence of which is present with every bite you take here. The BBQ pizza is even made with burnt ends house smoked from the barbeque place the next town over. It’s as next level as it sounds.
Not a fan of deep dish style pizza? No problem, I’m a sucker for a thin cracker crust sometimes as well. Wings, subs, salads, and apps are all as good as the pizza here and made with the same eye towards scratch made quality. Vegetarian options are plentiful, with welcome and inventive ingredient deviations from the old tired veggie pizza you’re used to. Beer, wine, and a small list of perfectly executed cocktails are here to accompany your trip to red sauce heaven, (don’t skip the Barrel-aged Manhattan.)
There is a lot of good pizza in Colorado. Many are unfortunately stuck behind an “artisan” label and served in uninspired or high end atmospheres. The vibe here is truly superior to any of its peers. Classic propaganda posters line the walls in a historic building in a tiny historic town. Here kind folks have been slinging some of the best food you could ever hope to find in Colorado for years. Relax outside by the river, play some yard games and have a slice and a beer. Devour an entire large square to yourself if you want to, I won’t judge. Gluttony has rarely found a better bedfellow than Propaganda Pie.
