We finally got in to Primal by Mia and it lived up to the hype! One of our favorite meals of all time. The service, views, and food were exceptional. The shrimp cocktail consisted of 6 collasal shrimp that were fresh and delicious. We split the porterhouse steak for two. It was one on the best steaks we have ever had. The Yukon side potatoes are to die for. The mushrooms and onions were in a delicious butter sauce. Even the mixed vegetables were excellent. They added a complimentary delicious dessert as well. We left very happy and full. It was a perfect evening. We will definitely be returning.

UPDATE: We did a “Notify Me” on Resy for Primal by Mia since we could find no reservations. As luck would have it, we were notified for tonight at 6:45PM. So we went straight from “Weapons” to Primal. What a great experience! The restaurant is pretty new and looks and feels great. Service by Riley was very good. She was very helpful and knowledgeable about flavors and combinations. At times service was slightly slow, but this was because she had responsibility for too many tables. I had the tartare, the surf & turf special, and complimentary salad and dessert. Gosh, so good. We started with some warm cheesy, garlic rolls. Yummy! The tartare had some good spice, was well prepared, and came with some buttery sweet crunch. The filet was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and came with a great garlic peppercorn sauce. We finished with profiteroles and a variety of sauces. Such a nice surprise. Highly recommend and we will be back….if we can get a reservation!!??

I have updated my rating, which would be a 5 except for the annoying reservation process. I still don’t like being managed by the restaurant’s reservation policy!!

ORIGINAL: This review won’t be based on my experience eating at Primal By Mia. Rather it is based on my experience TRYING to eat at Primal By Mia. It continues to amaze me that restaurants set up their scheduling so that I have to change my life around being available the moment the window for scheduling opens up. So you can only make reservations 10 days in advance and those reservations fill up immediately unless I engage my entire family to be online all at the same time trying to snag a reservation 10 days from now. We came to the shore for 2 weeks and never were able to get a reservation at a reasonable time. How precious it must be to think your food is so special that you can’t make it easier for folks to get a reservation and find out for themselves. So until I actually get a reservation, the rating on food and service and atmosphere will remain unchecked. But the experience with trying to eat there….one star! And I review a TON of restaurants. So I am not a one-off disgruntled user. I take seriously my restaurant reviews. Sadly, I won’t be able to say anything positive this year. Maybe next year when we visit?

Food was excellent. The appetizer tartar is not to be skipped. Our party of four all enjoyed their respective main courses. The Yukon side was also amazing. Our table had an beach/ocean view. Bread service, salad and dessert are all included with your entree. Our trip to primal was definitely a luxury.

Came to Primal for dinner during a July weeklong vacation with friends. Happy to report the meal, the location, the ambiance, all lead to a fantastic spot to check out. The entire staff was extremely kind & helpful, food was delicious.

Made a reservation online 10 days in advance for an ocean view seat for my boyfriend & I to celebrate our anniversary. We were sat immediately when we arrived. Our server Anna was great. We ordered the lobster ravioli which was delicious and the tartare which was extremely fresh and very tasty. Salad was yummy and refreshing… bread good too! For our meal, we shared the tomahawk steak with 2 lobster tails. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and the lobster tail was ready to eat. We chose the garlic peppercorn and horseradish cream sauces (Anna’s recommendation) and both were delicious but steak was still 10/10 without! Truffle yukon and mushrooms w/ onions knocked it out of the park as well. Complimentary dessert tied it all together. Originally, I was a bit nervous by some poor reviews saying they wouldn’t come back here again, but my boyfriend and I both agreed we would certainly dine at Primal again. Great atmosphere, great food, and great service!

Went here the night of my engagement, not knowing it was going to be the worst filet mignon I’ve ever seen or tasted. I ordered my steak, medium rare. It came completely dry. As you can see in the picture it does not look like a filet mignon at all. I sent it back. They cut it up and sliced it and said that it actually was a filet mignon Which you can see from the pictures, It was not medium rare and it definitely does not look like a quality steak at all. I would not recommend going back there again, especially that you have to make the reservation 10 days in advance within five minutes of 9 AM.

Had a terrific dining experience (as usual) at Primal last evening (Tuesday 7/29).

Arrived just after 8 PM with no reservation. We were glad to be seated at the bar, which is a great place to watch the beach and the Phillies. Servers “Riley” and Natalina were very social and accommodating.

We ordered the artichoke appetizer which was really cool. Mia’s homemade bread and dipping sauces are sinful, and frankly, we overindulged there. The family style salad was ample, creative, interesting – and my wife loved. House dressing was perfect.

Entrees were the 22 oz cowboy ribeye and the huge (always special) pork chop. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. Had a lot leftover, but no complaint there.

When you go to Primal, do not expect to be rushed. If you want to spend twenty minutes eating bread, the apps will follow. Somehow, if you take your time enjoying every bite of salad, the entrees will arrive just when you are ready.

Primal is BYOB but when sitting at the bar, you will not even realize, as the service is special.

Bread, salad and chef’s dessert of the evening are included. We ordered truffle Yukon as a side, and that was yummy.

Don’t want to forget to mention that all of the sauces, toppings, and plate displays are gourmet quality.

Walking in late on a Tuesday, I was expecting less than perfect service and was thinking we might be rushed. Experience was the complete opposite, can’t wait to go back!

Thank you Mia and team!!

What a fabulous restaurant. From the time we walked in, til when we left the staff couldn’t have been nicer. The food was out of this world, everything cooked to perfection. Also, they do not rush you through your meal like other places. Be sure to make a reservation, as there is no walk ins. Highly recommend.

Exceptional Dining Experience at Primal Steakhouse – Cape May, NJ

I’m a total food snob, and this was hands-down one of the best meals I’ve ever had. From start to finish, everything was incredible — the service fantastic our server Anna was attentive and friendly, the view was beautiful, and the food… just wow.

We started with the artichoke appetizer — unbelievable. Then came the lobster ravioli, rich and perfectly balanced. The swordfish was honestly the best I’ve ever had — perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The filet mignon melted in my mouth, and every side dish was next-level: creamy truffle mashed potatoes, perfectly sautéed veggies, mushrooms, onions, and an unbelievably fresh salad.

And don’t even get me started on dessert — the homemade coffee whipped cream alone could have been a highlight. Every bite, every course was perfection.

If you’re anywhere near Cape May, do yourself a favor and eat here. Primal Steakhouse absolutely exceeded every expectation.
