Elevated comfort food? Heck yeah! We really tried to pace ourselves, but then we saw “My Mom’s bread rolls” on the menu, and all sense went right out the window. And honestly, they were fantastic: oven hot and perfectly soft on the inside. We ended up having to take some of the ludicrously delicious pork belly rice home because we couldn’t finish it, and didn’t have room for dessert (which also looked incredible – next time?). We did finish the hand rolled crab pasta because not to do so would have been an abomination, and we can’t disrespect crab like that. All in all, every dish we tried really hit the spot on a cold November evening. The restaurant space is cozy, perfectly tucked away in a quiet corner of Bernal Heights. Just like its sister restaurant – 3rd Cousin – it’s a great spot for either a date night or a quiet and tasty hang out with some friends. We will definitely be back!

Update: We came back! And it was still crazy delicious. We skipped the bread and still didn’t have room for dessert. But please enjoy photos of some beautiful food and also their fun fish wallpaper in the bathroom!

My wife and I went here recently with our 2 close friends to celebrate our friends getting a new job.

We ordered the lobster hand roll with uni and caviar, the cod, the steak, the pork belly rice bowl and the Dubai chocolate sundae.

Everything was good but none of the dishes were standout amazing to me. The restaurant had a good ambiance for a celebration with our friends. I didn’t leave craving the dishes afterwards or wanting more of a certain dish.

Food was delicious. The baked oysters could’ve been warmer. Some were warm while others were slightly on the cold side. Otherwise, we loved the food and the ambiance.

Wonderful food and service. Happy I got to visit on the very first night, will definitely be back again. The gelato with Dubai chocolate dessert was amazing, hope it’ll stay for the long term!

A dream of a neighborhood restaurant. The atmosphere was both welcoming and warm — it was my birthday during restaurant week and we felt well taken care of. The food was fresh and inventive, extremely well executed versions of classics such as hanger steak and the black cod was more than a match for the dish served at Nobu. The oysters were creamy and house made mignonette was perfect. I recommend the house Parker roll with the whipped butter and salt. All dishes were well seasoned and balanced. The service was attentive and gracious. Desserts – bread pudding and chocolate sundae were a delight. Best meal we have had in the Bay in years.

Upon arrival, multiple staff members looked directly at and didn’t acknowledge us. The host kept focus on his tablet without even a hello, and after a long, awkward pause finally asked what we “needed help with”, instead of simply offering a table for two.

He then said he’d have to check with the waitress to see if she could “take another table,” which made us feel like we should be grateful just to sit down. We were seated at a table another party had just refused, crammed in a crowded corner in an otherwise very empty restaurant.

The waitress never introduced herself or welcomed us. Her tone the entire evening was curt and transactional. It gave the impression that customers were an inconvenience rather than valued guests.

I got a watery pasta with broccoli, not at all flavorful. The rest of the food was good. The only bright spot was the bussing staff, who actually smiled.

First impressions matter, hospitality matters, and consistency in the kitchen matters. Until that is addressed, I cannot recommend this place.

Not bad! It does feel a little overpriced.
Steak Frites and Pork Chop were my favorites.

We had a nice dinner here with long-time friends. It was a good vibe and ambiance. Unfortunately, while we had been excited by nearly everything on the menu, the food was a mixed bag. It generally felt over-seasoned / over-salted, and all of us felt like the oysters were a bit hit and miss. It was still a fun night, but did not quite live up to expectations.

Exceptional food and service. Staff is attentive, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The steak and the pork belly rice bowl were the standouts. The Dubai chocolate sundae is not to be missed. A great addition to the neighborhood.
