I hit up Preacher Smith’s last Friday night with some friends, and holy cow, we’re glad we did. The place was electric! I’ve never seen it so full (as you can see in the video). There was live music, and the band was playing classic songs and had the whole bar singing along. People were dancing and having a great time. So much fun!

I usually go to Preacher Smith’s on a week day because I love the speakeasy vibe, and it’s a calm and comfortable place to have a drink and chat with friends. I also love it for their huge selection of diverse craft beers on tap. My favorite is the Bourbon Barrel Stout.

But I guess on the weekends Preacher Smith’s shifts from a calm, relaxing environment to high energy music venue. We started our night in downtown Deadwood on Main Street. But after a couple drinks we road the Trolley up to Deadwood Lodge to check out Preacher Smith’s. We made the right decision. The energy was incredible! We laughed, we sang, we socialized, and we drank. It was a night for the books. The bartender made me an Old-fashioned with Turkish Tobacco bitters. I thought it was going to be weird tasting, but I was wrong! It was delicious. I let my buddies try it, and we were all drinking Turkish Tobacco Old fashioneds by the end of the night. And I realized that the craft cocktails at Preacher Smith’s are doubles. The drinks I got on Main Street were the same price, but they were only singles. So even though Preacher Smith’s was making me high-end craft cocktails, it was still cheaper than drinking on Main Street. Better bang for my buck!! I also couldn’t believe how often the cocktail waitresses checked on us even though the place was packed. We never felt neglected and it was never longer than a few minutes before there was another drink in our hand. I look forward to the next night like this.

Craft cocktails and a cozy atmosphere! This is a great addition to The Lodge. A wonderful spot to have a good drink without modern distractions. Preacher Smith’s is a one of a kind experience in Deadwood.

Very cool spot at the Lodge at Deadwood. They have a great whiskey selection and make a truly proper old Fashioned. They have some really great specialty craft cocktails as well if you’re feeling adventurous or just indecisive. Best part is you’re getting top shelf service at a very affordable price. I was honestly shocked. I wish I had a spot like this close to home.
