Preacher Green’s also offers a variety of sandwiches and salads. Both beer & wine are offered. This place is a gem. Not really hidden but for some reason, the name just never sounded too appealing for me. I’ve lived in Athens for years and have never tried this place until recently. Don’t let the outside of the building create your narrative. It is incredible, from the food to the atmosphere.
Might be a bit loud when it’s busy due to the smaller capacity and closer seating, but it’s definitely worth it. Food came out fresh and fast and they have some of the best catfish I’ve tasted.
My ONLY issue with it is that they serve their mac & cheese cold (at least the two times I’ve been). Not sure if that’s a thing I don’t know about, but not really my style. But the biscuits alone are worth the trip. Tired of eating at chain restaurants? Try this place out. You won’t be disappointed at all.

This has been a welcome addition to the eastside of Athens. We have eaten at Preacher Green’s numerous times and have always had good food and service. Food is made to order and is always hot.
It may be a tad pricier than other options, but that is because of how much is done in-house and better quality ingredients.

I live right around the corner and am kicking myself for taking so long to try this place! We had pot roast, mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus (a weekly side special, I think?), biscuit, fries and a fried chicken sandwich. I tried everything except the chicken, and it was all phenomenal. My husband loved the chicken sandwich, fries and biscuit, we will definitely be back! Service was fast and friendly, the place was clean and inviting!

We don’t live super close, but we decided to try this place after church one Sunday. Very glad we did. Everything was on point. I had the meatloaf, coleslaw, and collards. All great. And the homemade pepper sauce for the collards was delicious. Have already been back for dinner. The owner Paul is a great guy, and it’s obvious he cares about his community and this place. Will be back!

Honestly the best freshly prepared, home cooking in town. Clean eats, classic southern staples and healthier options as well. Friendly and quick counter service, and a brand new seating area.
A hidden gem on the menu: the smash burger! Lots of great burger joints in town but this spot tops my lists (and I love a burger, just ask my wife).
We will keep these kind folks in mind for our future catering needs.

Family friendly restaurant with good southern food. The staff is efficient and friendly. The food is good but not great. I like the light, fluffy cornbread. The rest was pretty unremarkable. On the price value curve I put this at four stars.

They cook the vegetables fresh, not from a can. Even the mashed potatoes are made from scratch. It tastes like my southern grandma made everything.
The drop biscuits are delicious. The collards and black-eyed-peas are soooo good.
The pot roast and fried pork cutlet with gravy were both super tasty.
The staff were very friendly from the moment we walked in the door, and the (owner or manager) came out from the kitchen to check on us.

This place is incredible, I’m blown away. Fine dining quality food at a great price, place was packed out and still we had our food in like ten minutes flat. Clean as a whistle (100 health department score), interior is so well put together you’d never know they just opened. Just everything about this experience was excellent.
